Almost two hours after Karen announced this:

"Release 1.6.12 scheduled for Tues. Aug. 30, 2005

In our continuing efforts to improve the Second Life experience, we are planning to update the Second Life grid to version 1.6.12 on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 from 6:00 AM PDT to 12:00 Noon PDT pending final verification of all issues. During that time Second Life will be unavailable."

Jeska announced this:

"Bring your in-world currency exchange questions and inquiries to the Town Hall Meeting with Philip Linden on Tuesday August 30th from 3:30 - 5:00 PM PDT/SL-Time."

This is of course no conspiracy to prevent people from participating in the meeting as the sims and Asset System All Hail The Central Asset System take their requisite twelve hours to acclimate. Then again, that explanation makes me feel more secure about the future than "uh duh not think what have update er patch day not edit go nowhere eh."

Just a reminder, the exact same thing happened on the day of Cory Doctorow's in-world reading. Sorrowful coinkydink, methinks.

The timing for this town hall is rather unfortunate. What I plan to do, however, is ask a Liaison for a repeater tonight and pull it out tomorrow on my land to listen - no muss, no fuss, no teleporting involved. If I have questions, they can be IMed to Jeska or whichever trusty Linden facilitator, er, facilitates at Philip's town hall. :)

Wow, Beryl. You have offered and intelligent, thoughtful and logical solution to a potentional problem minus the usual whining that goes on in these forums. Bravo. I like you even more! :D

If they didnt have a townhall or put it off until later in the week people would still bitch. They react to something quickly and all people do is complain. Whiners.

Agreed 100%. Now just cue the people bitching about the time of the town hall and the circle will be complete. There is a forum post set up for people to post their questions. Being at an actual town hall is always complete chaos, and you can ask questions live through IM even if you are not there. What people choose to bitch about never ceases to amaze me, as does the sheer amount of cynicism over the stupidest fucking things.

But Cris, if we weren't cynical, what would we be?

Maybe it is funnysad, or bittersweet... I know it will be my first Town Hall after my trip off to Watermelon Prime so I will be very happy to attend, even if I am gray/grey!

I am sad that I can't attend, because I am from Wolf 359, and it just doesn't jive with my time zone.

Wolf 359 is also a northern hemisphere object, located 7.7 light years from Earth. It is only 1/100th the brightness of the Sun, and its temperature is only 2,430 Kelvin. Compared with the Sun's temperature of 6,000 Kelvin, Wolf 359 is a really cool star! Like Barnard's Star, Wolf 359 is known as a red dwarf - dwarf referring to its size, and red referring to the part of the electromagnetic spectrum where most of its energy is emitted. While unremarkable in the sky, Wolf 359 has made a name for itself as an important neighboring star in such science fiction shows as Star Trek, Babylon 5, and The Outer Limits. Recently, the Hubble Space Telescope has produced images of Wolf 359 with unprecedented spatial resolution to search for companions (planets or brown dwarfs). None were found. To the best of our knowledge, the Sun is still the only star among our immediate neighborhood with Jupiter-size planets.

I like Funshine Bear. I won quizzo and got a free bar tab by answering correctly that Funshine Bear was the one with a sun on him tummy.

Babylon 5 rocks.
