I sent an email to support and haven't heard back, so I'm asking if anyone else knows anything.
I created Surreal on my husband's credit card. Then moved her to a basic account when Ferran and I bought the island since I didn't need tier anymore. Now, I'm unloading the husband (yay!) and cancelling that credit card. It would be nice to have my account in my name though. It doesn't seem possible to change the name on your account unless you change the credit card info... and that doesn't seem possible unless you want your card charged.
Anyone know?

I changed my credit card info some time back when we lost a CC. I'm on basic, with all the land holdings under the hubby's account, and I wasn't charged anything for the change. It didn't require an email to LL, just my changing the card info here on the website.
Not sure if that helps, but there it is.

It only charges one US dollar to your card to be sure that the card is valid. The charge is never confirmed so it expires after a few days. You don't actually end up paying anything for the test.

I have changed the credit card number on my account because we lost our Visa and had to get a new card number from our bank. That's a simple enough thing to do via the 'My Account" section on the SL website, and it cost me nothing.
If you want to actually change your name on your account (I assume you're re-taking your maiden name), I'd guess you'd need to get the LL support or billing people to manually do that for you. I may be wrong, though.

I have done it 3 times and not been charged. It may put a nominal hold charge on your account as Khamon said, but that was not a charged dollar in my case, just a probe to find out if my card(s) were valid.
