I was wondering what other "RL in SL" or "Serious Games Initiative" members are going to be at SLCC... I'd be nice to get us all together to share a drink or two at the party.

I'll be there.. so let the count start at 1 :)

You had better count on sharing a drink or two with me, Satch.

I don't understand this question.

I'm part of the RL in SL group, and will be there as well; I know Echanacea has said she's coming in two other threads, so put the count up to three!

Pathfinder and Robin Linden are both member of the group as well, so I guess that's five already?

I think there are some other members of the group registered, but I won't say their names since I can't remember whether or not that have let it be known that they are coming.

Regards,

-Flip

We have a group in SL called "RL in SL" and it's members consist of people using SL for thier everyday work (at least to some extent).

The Serious Games Initiative is a group of people who use Gaming technologies for serious purposes, like education, training and simulation. We have a mailing list that anyone interested can join. We also have a few conferences a year.

So I was asking, is anyone from those two groups going to be at SLCC :) As Flip points out, so far we have a few!

I'm part of RL in SL, and very excited about everything people in the group are doing, though I've missed the last couple for various reasons. And I will most certainly be there and open to all sorts of beverages.

And hey, I've been meaning to find out more about this "serious games" stuff too. (Did you see the article about Disease-Fighting Games in the WaPo yesterday? I hate it when the Post is hipper to something I care about than me.)

Yea Hank, you should check it out. It's a great community. I just returned from the Games for Health conference and there were presentations on many of the games in the WaPo article.

To get involved just join the Serious Games mailing list and lurk for a while and see what we're all about. It's a low traffic list, where people discuss projects, products, research, news, and ideas about non-entertainment games. We discuss everything from business simulations, to education, to games for policy and politics and of course games for health.

I especially recommend the Serious Games Summit being held in Washington D.C. from Oct 31-Nov 1. Last year there seemed to be an even split of game developers, and people looking for game developers. Last year was also heavy on government but we'll see what this years conference holds.

Speaking of games for health, everyone should check out Ben's Game which was developed with the help of Make-A-Wish Foundation and Lucas Arts. Ben's wish was to make a game that helps fight the symptoms of cancer, and it has been a big hit amongst kids who suffer from them.

I live in DC, but I don't think either myself or my business can cough up the $600 for that one. (Though if you happen to know who to bug for volunteer opportunities, I'd definitely be interested in hitting that).

I will be checking out the NAS Educational Games seminar the day after, which is less impressive in scope but has the advantage of being free.
