Cancelling Teleport

I just had a look at the release notes for 1.7

And one of them popped out at me as something that could be changed before it goes "live".

The inability to cancel teleport home if scripted - now i know this was probably a "griefer"" thing that youteleport someone off of your land and they just hit cancel.

But on the flip side of the coin is the innocent teleport victim.

It happened to me today - there I was flying to a landmark from the hub (quite high to avoid buildings ) and suddenly - wham - I was being teleported home.

I had obviously crossed someones land that had automated defences - but without the cancel I owuld have had to try and find where it was so that i could avoid it when i next flew into the location from the hub.

How about changing it so that instead of having a cancel button - you have a "go safe" button which cancels the tp home and teleports to the nearest safe location ( IE Not the plot you are on - or at least the nearest hub)

I dont fancy having to carry a book of maps with me marking down red spots that I cannot fly over without being zapped all the home again, and as 1.7 is still being tuned and perfected - how about putting it in before it becomes an issue and has to have a new release to reverse the cancel decision ?

Just a thought

Personal convenience doesn't carry as much weight as perpetuating the Myth of Privacy on the mainland. Lying to people...misleading residents...how can I say this nicely...convincing us of primal concern for our privacy is a critical retainment tool for LL. They will bolt you, and any relevant feature, to the floor rather than allow people to understand that there is no possible way to maintain any privacy on the mainland.

It's a necessary corporate decision because so many residents want to believe it. The few that understand it to be a myth, and the many that are inconvenienced on occassion, will continue to be labeled heartless radicals bent on the destruction of The Community All Hail The Central Community.

I can see your point, and partly agree. However it would be leaving it open for reverse abuse.

I don't like the idea of going to a local telehub, because that eliminates the whole point of the function, especialy if your property is right next to a telehub.

I suggest ARing the teleporting object that's right near a telehub (and any other security script that's causing trouble). If you can't find the object, AR in the area and include in the report that you couldn't find it but it's somewhere around there.

There are a lot of functions that are both abused, and used responsibly. This is one of them.

While many are rightfully frustrated and annoyed that it is used (irresponsibly) for privacy purposes, its also *responsibly* used for grief mitigation.

Crippling this function with a cancel button is like crippling llPushObject, and carries the same concerns. The solution, is to get at the heart of the problem - **misusing the function**, rather than disabling all uses of it.

Giving us proactive tools to prevent grief could make the need for security devices unneccesary. The current tools, including llTeleportHome - are all reactive solutions.

It sure would be nice if we could get closer to a world where folks could have privacy when they want it without impacting anyone else - AND - prevent grief from occuring before it starts. I don't believe this is an unrealistic goal with the proper toolset.
