Given that SL can be used as both a medium to display RL art and a medium in which to create art, how would you feel about the creation of a dedicated forum to discuss art, artists, and museums in SL? Further, what would you call such a forum?
Like scripting, I feel artistic expression is an integral part of SL, yet it has no forum like its technical counterpart.

I am for it, although I would like to see Rants reinstated as well.

Well they made one for politics of all things so I don't see why they shouldn't make one for art.
But I guess it isn't very related to the game itself if all the creation is done outside the game. So the off-topic forum would be good for that (sub-forum of that) and you can always use the texturing forum for inworld stuff.

gallery: a room or series of rooms where works of art are exhibited

Further, what would you call such a forum? If art is made for the medium of Second Life it doesn't matter whether it was made in photoshop or whatever. Multimedia art is regularly displayed in galleries - it's not made in situ. One interesting point is the distinction between people displaying their own art and other artist's work. I've seen loads of copies of other people's stuff in world. I end up all presuming that most art is copied textures unless it is stated otherwise (although I've seen people pass off other people's stuff as their own). Of course things in the public domain due to their age are fine - it's the blatant stealing from other artists that pisses me off.

i know i may be a dark cloud of tabloid journalism just waiting to explode...
but, really.. it's all tongue-in-cheek.
i appreciate good art and think it would be completely faboo to see it honored with a sub-forum.
rock on!

Is this thread about stolen art or the want for an art forum?

We have the Gallery forum, would this not suffice? Do we need another forum?

That's what I was going to say. The Gallery is fairly underused except for a couple threads, but it's there.

From: Alexa Hope We have the Gallery forum, would this not suffice? Do we need another forum? I don't know, it seems like the Gallery forum is intended more for snapshots of various subjects and events, and an Art forum would be somewhat more focused, and have more of an emphasis on discussion as well. Personally, I favour the creation of an Art forum. It makes sense to me.

Maybe the gallery forum could be split into a couple of sections?
