Hey all, I found Second Life on Download.com a few days ago! So far, I'm the only one who gave it a good review!

I think more important is the fact that they have had 2300 visitors to the site download the Second Life software.

Actually there are 5 reviews and the only negative one is from someone who didn't have the video card (presumably) to run it. And yet the download page shows 3 votes in total with only 33% positive!
I think CNET is becoming a trailing victim of the dot-com bust. During the boom times they went around buying up all competing publications, such as Ziff-Davis, Computer Shopper, and others (I think Download.com was an acquisition too) then they "standardized" everything so that the editorials and news content on all of these pubs were almost identical. Then they got rid of some of the more expensive talent such as Jesse Berst and Peter Coffee and substituted anyone who could spell "Windows". Now they are scaling everything back. An insider told me they have about 5 times as much office space as they need (and fancy furniture to go with it) and they can't find anyone to take it off their hands. So instead they cut CNet radio (and staff), lay off most of their web admins, cut daily e-mail newsletters to 3 days a week, and turn the "editorial" content into not so cleverly disguised ads for cell phones and PDA devices. I hope someone comes along and puts them out of their misery soon. Thats my review of CNet. 99% thumbs down. |

Yeah screw CNET.. there is indeed ONE thumbs down from someone who didn't have the right graphics card. Other than that 10 or 15 5 stars only thumbs up.
Everyone ga rate this game ![]() |

I screwed up my review hehe. Not good
I meant to write, "If you don't like meeting new people, making the latest fashion for you or someone else, building anything you can dream of, or making objects to follow your every command, then turn back now! I won't like you! hehe " but by accident I wrote "If you like meeting new people, making the latest fashion for you or someone else, building anything you can dream of, or making objects to follow your every command, then turn back now! I won't like you! hehe " Always proofread your reviews! lol I hope nobody sees my review! _____________________

For the record, I didn't give SL a perfect score because if we all gave it a perfect score, and used our SL names, we would look like a single fanboy voting under different aliases. Makes us all look more sincere if we admit that SL isn't a "perfect" world.

NOT A PERFECT WORLD! All right everybody I got the tar, grab some feathers. Somebody needs to build a rail, so we can ride Teeny outta town on it. It only needs to go as far as that tree over there with the rope hanging from it.

I've NEVER liked CNet. That place gives me the creeps. All that yellow and white. Ew.

Did cNet buy ZDNet? They look simular now.
I like www.webattack.com (they changed their name but I never remember it), they gots good stuff, but I don't think they have SL listed. Anyway, I thought I reviewed the cnet thing already? *goes to check again* Hah I did already! _____________________

Originally posted by Oz Spade Did cNet buy ZDNet? They look simular now. CNet bought ZDNet a LONG time ago (in Technology time). CNet started out as a web-only publication. ZDNet was mostly paper. Many people (like me) found that it was easier to get all your technical info online than to wade through 5 pounds of newsprint every week. ZDNet got on the web, but it was too late to compete with the presence that CNet already had (News.com, Download.com, etc). With a boatload of venture capital cash, CNet easily bought ZDNet. They also bought a big new office building, with plans to rent much of it out at high rates. Oh, and fancy office furniture. I don't know HOW they selected their editorial staff, as some of them seem to be fairly clueless. Some of these clueless people worked on CNet Radio which I listened to on XM until its demise last year, but there was enough useful content on the shows to outweigh listening to a journalist complain that they couldn't get their wireless network at home to work. When they discontinued CNet Radio I started looking into why they would give up a fairly unique vehicle such as that. That's when I found out that the office rental market in SFBay had collapsed and CNet was cutting back all over the place to make up for their bad real-estate decisions. Part of their problems have to do with the technology downturn, but I have a feeling more of them are self inflicted. Fortunately what CNet did on the web initially is being repeated many times over by other funded companies as well as individuals with specialized expertise. With Slashdot, Groklaw, Tom's Hardwar, Register/Inquirer, Internet Storm Center and many other sources, CNet won't be missed. I hardly bother with them any more, although Anchordesk.com is still good for laughs (I still miss Jesse Burst). |

I see, I always wondered why I'd often get the same search results on both of them

Well, yes, I went and registered and wrote a review, despite the fact that the registration process looked very much like a trawl for address to which they could send spam.
