New scriptors sim/theme?

I have an idea for the Lindens, heavy scripters, and the physics nuts like me out there.

Now we all know that LL will be adding sims as they can. There are also themed sims currently. Also now there is serious controversy over our need and desire to do our thing. Why not add them all together?

I have an idea for all us scripters etc...

Why don't we all get together, and figure out who all would be in on an idea to have a Scripter/physics experimental theme sim?

If you think its a good idea and would seriously consider being a part of this post yay here. If you don't like it, plz keep your opinions to a dull roar, as this is only an idea, and all the themed sims had a chance to submit their idea to the Lindens and I really didn't hear any serious objections publicly to their ideas.

I'm not saying you shouldn't post your opinion, after all that is what I'm doing here.

Also with the group land options in 1.1 this theme would be very possable.

If we get enough people interested, and the idea is a go with the Lindens or even if not, we can (until 1.1) equally split the land grab if we have to grab current land. Or we can w8 till new sims come up and hope that LL will accept our theme, then make it group owned.

That way we can all do our thing, and not have too much outside chaos, also we can have the option (I think, if I understand group land correctly) delete unused physics objects after the creators logoff.

I'd say one of the requirements should be that members of the group should agree that anything that moves, blows up, hits things, has physics, etc... Should at minimum have the noise cancellation, and the stay in sim script.

Then all bullets and the like have a touch die script in them, so as the ones that don't auto die or ones that the creators miss can be deleted by others in the sim.

Plz post if you are interested.

Only those interested in free ability to create and experiment, and sometimes build wild and wacky stuff just to play with for hours need apply :-).

Apparently I script like a blind double-arm amputee paints, but I like to think I'll eventually get better...eventually. Count me in for the idea.

Not to mention the "tourist" action such a place would get -- Come See The Latest And Greatest As It Is Built And Tested! :D

"Annoyance, interruptions, a scripter craves not these things"

Maybe incorporate a general "No Interruptions" rule? Perhaps post it on a billboard in the sim or sensor-handed notecard upon entry? I know most of the people here don't mind the occasional question or IM regarding their works, but I can see where a deluge of questions such as "Wow that's amazing, how'd you do it? Can you teach me? Huh? huh? Can you?" could get annoying.

What exactly would we do with it that we don't have with Olive?

I thought of it as a place of general pre agreed content, where there is no misconceptions of what build is acceptable or what level of craziness is acceptable, as anything pretty much goes.

Also it would be user/member controlled. We could set permissions to just the group for moments of solitude, or if we have a group idea we want no body stealing b4 we finish it type of thing.

Also the stuff wouldn't be deleted everynight, but as its group owned and considered a sandbox of sorts, us as members can clean the sim when needed, or if someone leaves something up that is laggin the sim bad after they log off.

Plus we would have all the other benifits of a group owned plot of land.

If we create a massive cool ride type thing that incoorporates alot of cool scripts and physics that no other sim can handle/ or is welcome. We would have the option to have it up for a few days and sell land passes for the group to make $ off of.

i propose...
that might have been the proposal...
propose..

<puts needle back on track>
...sorry... thow i think its a great idea i think the terms of usage etc would have to be clearly defined so as to set it off from Olive.

Ive posted this idea before in another forum.
Olive is a "de facto" physics-themed sim. You can simply NOT go there and peacefully script something when you have 300 meter tall towers collapsing on your head and making the sim FPS drop to near zero.

hey Charlie

i actually had proposed this same idea for the themed sims way back in the day. thats prolly what Gwyd was mentioning. i proposed it kinda late and didn't get too much support so i decided to scrap it and ended up joining kazenojin instead. i think it was a good choice cuz us kazenojin kick arse! :D

I can totally understand the desire for privacy and a clean work area. thats why i had proposed it originally. and i still think its a great idea to have a place that is just for working/experimenting. where one of the goals would be to minimize lag. it would be different from olive in that only the group can use it (and guests) and things don't get deleted overnite.

From my experience tho i couldn't find enough support. although i was only trying to organize for what? 2 days? heh. one thing that crossed my mind tho is that this idea might mesh with the SL university thats just getting started. maybe if we get ourselves some land we can have an experimental area. maybe come to the meeting we're gonna have. just a thought. laters

Sounds fun, though I can't script anything except "touch_say". But it does sound really great. Maybe scripting classes could be included in the sim... ?

PLZ?

I wanna script too!

I would like to note, from a scientific standpoint that scripting and testing said scripts in a laggless / quiet environment has one inherant flaw...

...The rest of SL is not like that.

I understand both sides of this argument but its just food for thought.

The point is that people could come to our sim and watch said scripts work in a quiet lagless environment, granting us vote/dwell money, donations, or even paying for usage to help offset land costs.

Oh trust me I think a constantly empty, controlled trafic sim would be nice. Like a Sandbox with limited access.

The point isnt to see how it would work- but rather to have a place to MAKE it work.
