ok i know i have an account but i cant really play SL right now since i only have a dial up im going to have my dsl in a few days. okay i have a few questions i dont know if it was stated before but when i dled SL i couldn't open it it's icon is one of those papers with a box in it with 3 little color things. Second do i need to be a scripter to have fun in this game? and are there any super powers like um fireballs that go along with flying? And if u want to criticise me on this fine but don't make a pointless comment that is boiled down to "SHUT UP YOU NEWB" its not very helpful

1) Not sure how to answer that question.
2) No you don't have to be a scripter but it can be fun. I'm not a scripter and I have a ton of fun. But that's me.
3) No, no "super powers" -- there's really no need for them. You can make yourself look like you have super powers via some objects. But SL isn't like other online games in the sense that the goal isn't to kill things or people to advance, quite the opposite, so "super powers" are sort of irrelevant, kind of.
Does that help?

When you dl it, sometimes it doesn't have the .exe on the end. I had that problem, goto rename on the file and add .exe to the end of the filename.

Hush up and listen NEWB What is Second Life? This is a common question, and debated even in the developer's circles. Is Second Life a game? If it is, then what's the point? How do you win? What are the challenges? If it's not a game, then what is it? A great social experiment? Again, you must ask then, what's the point? All philosophy aside, to me Second Life is the "game" a lot of us have always wanted. Second Life is actually a virtual world, where you, as a resident of the world, are allowed to create whatever your imagination can dream up. As a resident you can effect the world with your presence. Dream up a quest or a puzzle and put it out there for others to solve. Be creative and build something that will amaze and astound everyone. Empower yourself and learn how to script, thereby giving actions to your objects. Second Life is more then a game, and more like a real world. The people who live or visit there, are real, with real feelings, and real friends. You can choose to live your life as a hermit under someone's pool, or you can become famous and recognizable to all! The choice is yours in Second Life, and I guess that is what Second Life is. It's not a game, it's not a great experiment, it's a choice. You choose how you will interact or not interact. You choose where you want to live. You choose your destiny! No matter what you do in Second Life, no matter how famous or infamous you become, no matter if you are the best or the worst builder, scripter, creator, whatever you are, whatever you become, you will have impacted this world greatly. So is it just a game, or is it a great social experiment? Whatever it is, it sure is fun Thanks!

Not really. If you have an idea you want scripted there are plenty of folks willing to help you out. From: someone any super powers like um fireballs that go along with flying?
Pretty much anything you can imagine you can be created in some form or another... From: someone don't make a pointless comment that is boiled down to "SHUT UP YOU NEWB" its not very helpful

I think everyone is more friendly because there is no game-imposed tiers that people typically use to feel superior to others. Without levels, or l337 gear, or other MMO trappings, its harder to make a snap 'I'm better than that guy' judgement. Which is good, in case you are not following me I do miss having massive pre-built events that take 100 people 6 hours or more to do, but that's cause I get lazy. The best part of SL is that those events can exist if you take the time to make it. SL is like the assembly language of games. You can do all the same stuff as other games but you have to do it all yourself from scratch Can't help you with your login problem but thanks for reading my ramble.

I had this problem too, and found out that I needed to reduce the internet speed under options (or whatever it's called on the log-in screen) I've talked to people who were in SL and on a 56k modem, and although they were laggy, they were actually able to get around, hee hee hee. But seriously, first try putting your settings to 100kps, no more, then reduce your view to something like 60 - 100 meters. You'll have less initial problems. Otherwise you may also freeze up from too many downloads. Eventually the cache will help you download stuff better, but untill you've been around a bit more, try these tricks, They really helped me. After you get a feel for stuff, you can make changes and compare and see how far you can push it. But the same thing happened to me, where it would blow my dsl away, and I'd have to reestablish a connection. It gets jammed somehow, but lowering the setting in options will clear that up. You can do a search on the web to find free places that clock your download speed, then use that to make sure your setting is set BELOW it (my download speed is an abismal 160kps) Good luck, hope this helps (writing between phone calls, hope it makes sence, hee hee hee) Love INgie

I had that problem!!! The thing is...the install and download is behind the log-in screen. Try this: Click ctrl+alt+delete and you should see the task manager come up. The download and install was BEHIND the taskmanager. Just move task manager if you can and then continue on. Hopefully the download and install won't be behind it and you can just click out of task manager and continue on....but somehow you gotta get that log-in screen down. Another alternative is someother keys that toggles windows....but I forgot how to do that Hope this helps!! Took me a month to figure this one out.
