Out of sheer curiousity, is there any way to see how many new people are signing up due to the free account release? I've been watching the referers leaderboard, and the welcome areas were nicely jammed with default avs, but is there any way to know something a little less ballparky?

That just made me think of the referer bonus...is that still around...? Wouldn't it be simple enough for people to go around creating multiple e-mail addresses and creating new free accounts and reffering their main account or even a group effort to monopolize a single account on reffers?

Referal uses the credit card number as a check that you're not the owner of the refered account. Bonus is 1000 L$. A bunch of my friends from BuF are coming over... WATCH OUT AND LOCK YOUR DAUGHTERS :D

According to the population stats in the front page, which I can only assume are correct, since SL went free roughly 1,400 people have signed up. I noticed 800 the first day (Wednesday) and 600 yesterday.

No way to trust any gathered data

i'm wondering if any of the numbers could even be accurate, even if we could see them. the reason I say this is today I noticed a new avatar with the name with a first name of ****a. Seeing them as new and missing the last name I did a find, only to see 16 accounts for the same day, with exactly the same name with a different letter behind the first name.

This is troublesome, since the refer bonus of some one is going way up for making multiple accounts, as well as falsly jacking up the new accounts number.
