Hello, everybody.
1. Is there any way to see how much it will actually cost to build an item in it's discription? Please understand that I haven't been in-client yet because of they server hours.
2. Is it practical to attach a machine to the outside of my home that would despense my card so I could meet people?
3. Can we model our weapons after real world weapons?
4. How is damage regulated? Couldn't someone build a nuke cannon and blow everyone away via the scripting language?
5. Can you modify the behavior (script) of an item while it's in the world?
6. Could one build a vehicle, like a buggy or a helicopter? I know everyone can fly, but vehicles with weapons would be interesting for the Outlands. I read something about a guy trying to build an airplane. Is that possible?
7. This is the big one... is it possible for me to live an interesting and meaningful life in SL with little scripting and modeling knowledge? I'm sure I'll pick some of it up, but... It'll still be hard.

Hi Logan! I will tackle a few of these but Im sure others can do better at some of them! Glad your here!
1. Is there any way to see how much it will actually cost to build an item in it's discription? Please understand that I haven't been in-client yet because of they server hours.
Yes, the basic price of one primary is 10 SL bucks so it depends on the number of primaries in your final object. Custom textures are also 10 bucks to upload, but there are in-world textures allready available.
2. Is it practical to attach a machine to the outside of my home that would despense my card so I could meet people?
Not sure. Standard way is to exchange crads between two "online" users. It is possible to leave notes to each other in this fashion.
3. Can we model our weapons after real world weapons?
As far as your expertise and imagination limit you. There are allready some pretty realistic looking guns! Good job guys!
5. Can you modify the behavior (script) of an item while it's in the world?
Yes you can modify the script online live test and retest.
6. Could one build a vehicle, like a buggy or a helicopter? I know everyone can fly, but vehicles with weapons would be interesting for the Outlands. I read something about a guy trying to build an airplane. Is that possible?
Yes you can build these and then attach them to your avatar or actually step into them if scripted and fly or float and steer boats also. I think we are just in the beginning stages of whats capable it will be exciting to watch the scripters go to town on this stuff!
7. This is the big one... is it possible for me to live an interesting and meaningful life in SL with little scripting and modeling knowledge? I'm sure I'll pick some of it up, but... It'll still be hard.
I know there are other people in your shoes as well so dont be discourage. Alot of nice people in-world to help you along the way!

This is my main concern about the long term of this experience. There are no commodities in the game--no materials cost... just about anything can be built... and ye, verily, players have the power to raise and lower the very firmament itself! But think of it this way: since there are so *few* things built-in here, the really good stuff will come out the minds of fellow players. (Thinking here goes like this: Since everyone can simply set things to do max damage, and come up with ways to target, that means the better games are going to involve some other 'token' designed explicitly for use in particular games... I wish I could finish with a nice example, but It's almost server up and can't think straight atm [well, also, no penalty for dying right now either]

1) The basic cost is $10/primitive, as Steller said... it doesn't tell you in your inventory how much it costs, but it does in the world (edit it)... also note that you're refunded the money when you delete an item, so you won't bankrupt yourself playing around.
4) Going with what Sleeper said... I'm working on a PvP game, but it'll require registration and only have 'approved' weapons (don't worry, there'll still be customization involved. I'm sure other people will have systems like this for more controlled PvP.
7) I'd say so. Firstly because even though you don't know anything about modelling or scripting, it's really not very hard to pick up. And secondly because you don't really NEED to. Remember, you can hire other people to do it. You can organize events, that requires no scripting or modelling (again, you can get people to help). You can... come up with any number of ideas, fund them, and see if you can make money off them. Heck, you can even try to just enter every event and win money that way. Just remember, you'll get out what you put in, as with anything. Don't be shy or afraid to get involved, people are VERY willing to help you learn.

4) The nice thing about this even tho people can script whole sim nukers......is that there are specific areas only that damage can be taken. So the PKer's cant touch those in the 'safe' zones.
