Is there a typical in-world lifespan for the average resident? It seems even some of the most productive avatars seem to leave "active duty" in SL after about 9-12 months. Why is this?
For me, I'm juggling a lot of RL work/projects/activities so I can't spend the time I'd like to in world. :( To add to this, when I am in world, many of my old pals aren't around, which gives me less incentive to hang out in my virtual home.
Is this the same story for other people?
I realize that someone who doesn't play much anymore isn't as likely to be reading the boards, but you never know...

I think with anything cutting edge like this, there are always a good number of folks who have a lot of motivation & interest when they begin, and it burns out shortly.

Others are quite persistent, and stick around indefinately.

I plan to be here for the long haul :D

I admit sometimes things get me down! But I would never leave unless something majorly happened!

I have way too many dear friends in world and now in real life to consider that for a looooooooooong time :)

To me SL isn't like other online games where you get bored of the content and game mechanics after a while (usually a short while). It's more like another room in my house. I may not go in there all the time but it would take hiring a demolition crew to have it removed.

So far, I am pushing 7 months. :D What a scream!

I have met some of the older residents, and I have been honored with their friendship and support. While my SL addiction is complete--necessitating a nightly fix, some of my betters are not on as often as I am.

Oh, well.

When they are in-world, wackiness ensues! It is well worth the wait. :D

As a mentor, I have been able to notice the patterns of newer residents--I am often given friendship cards which I do not delete. It seems that the vast majority of newer folks log on once or twice, never to be heard from again (well, at least not for several months). Does this mean that I am not doing the 'mentoring thing' right? Dunno. :0

Conclusion? If you make it past the first two months, you are, barring any unfortunate life-changes, here for the duration.

Quitting SL makes about as much sense to me as uninstalling Firefox.

I'm days away from being here a year and I still want more. I seem to always have about 3 things I want to make and I meet new people regularly which has been great. For example, I didn't know Jillian very well but as it turns out, she's someone worth stalking. :)

I have seen this same thing going on, I have made new friends and still try to keep in touch with my old friends that still come on. It's hard in sl to meet ppl now because the world is so big, and I find that many are not as friendly like the old days. I still try to say hi to anyone I see if they say more after how are you then I will try to keep chatting but many will end it at great....lol

An extension of RL....
08-12-2005 13:22
I enjoy SL too much to ever leave. It's become an extension of my RL with loved ones and friends crossing back and forth from each. I'm not in game everyday anymore, but that's just life. Like Chip said, "It's more like another room in my house. I may not go in there all the time but it would take hiring a demolition crew to have it removed." Course I figure Alexin and I will also outlast all the other land owners in Periwinkle and slowly scoop up the whole sim!!! Muahahaha!

Aimee that pic was creeeeepy. *shudders, breathes in and out slowly, and chants, "It's not real, it's not real."*

Coming up on two years...

I'm over-busy right now, but won't be taking on projects for a while so I can get back to just enjoying SL. :-) Its been a busy year for the Flipstah, so I'm thinking next year will be more of a year to kick back and enjoy what OTHER people are organizing!

It has never gotten old, boring or complacent for me.

I'm not even a year gone myself, but SL is infinitely more interesting a place. And, as said, it's a place - it's like another country you travel to; you may decide to go elsewhere for a time, but it's not something you beat and throw away.

Yeah... it's not that I want to leave SL. The only thing that has kept me from it are enormous circumstances. But I'm back and log in and participates just as much as I always did. 2 years come november. w00t w00t.

SL ROCKS!

Ahem yeah. Cheerleading. *puke* Done.
