Boring day, so I'm browsing thru the news sites, saw this, and had to post. I know this story's been posted in another thread...but it's a new development and I wanted to rant about it. So sue me. :P

I'm a causal console game player...don't get much into racing games. I like RPG games with plotlines and character. I wasnt much into Grand Theft Auto when it first came out, as I thought it was simply a race against cops kinda game. But in reading the hoopla about it lately, I actually read about how the game works. I got interested in it as it sounded like it had multiple storylines, non-linear gameplay, great voice acting, and a large world to explore. I thought that since it was one of the discounted old PS2 $20 game, I might try it out.

Then they changed the rating to AO.

Now I can't find a copy of the game for under $50. According to the story, all the big time shops that had the game have pulled it. And I'm officially annoyed.

There is so much irony in this 'outrage' it isn't even funny. The woman bringing the suit to court bought the game for her 14-year old grandson...when the game was rated M, not reccomended for children under 17. You can't even access this fragile little mind-warping mini-game unless you hack into the PC version...and I'd think you'd have to go to a lot of trouble to hack the PS2 version. And once again, the Offensiveness Patrol is outraged over something sexual while overlooking the extreme violence the main plotline focuses on.

Speaking as an gamer angel who's over 17 last time I checked, I find the fact that I'd have to pay an extra $30 for a product just because Hillary Clinton wants to pander to the "Family Values" policital camp very annoying. I also find that Best Buy is a bit hypocritical for pulling GTA off the shelves for sexual content while leaving the Playboy Vixens DVDs out.

*sigh* American values are so out of control. :(
