Hello all,
As a new user, I recently wandered around in a store with anticipation to purchase lovely furnature for my new low prim house. In all suddeness, a female pops up from out of nowhere (who's name I will not mention), rates me negative in all aspects in a split second and immediately dissapears offline. This without having spoken to me, knowing me. And can't recall I have seen this pixelated person ever before. Don't know many people yet as a noobie.
Essentially, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if they want to project their unhappiness about themselves - anonymously - onto others to feel more "powerful" ... it says more about themselves.
I wonder however, where does one draw the line when someone rates one negative, in pestering harassing manner in SL without a reason? Just like that? When I checked how many negatives she gave to others, it gave me the impression it was a hobby of hers.
Sadly. Because essentially we want to feel welcome and comfortable in SL. And presume the negative rating is used sparingly for only those who truly are extremely rude or - ironic in this case - harrasing.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
Natalia

Well, SL has its share of twits, just like RL. Shrug and move on, the cool and interesting outweighs the greifer and annoying.

Thanks for reply. You're absolutely right. C'est la vie, even in SL. And besides, if I'm not mistaken, she's paying quite a lot of Linden to be a twit. Moving on. Cheers!

Check their sign-up date. If they're new, ignore them. It doesn't really impact you anymore, unless you're a stickler. They just burned L$75, don't bother spending money on them.

Natalia, I for one don't look at people's ratings much. Ironically, the ones I've noticed are usually only the ones I've already befriended and considered worthy of knowing Your own consistent behavior and character will go much farther in SL than anybody's unwarranted rating of you. Sorry that happened to you, but don't let it ruin your fun.

Natalia - I'd shrug off the negative ratings. You're being so calm and postive about this, I think you deserve a positive rate in behavior for handling this as you are I'm wondering if it might be useful to file an abuse report in a case like this. Granted - negative rating someone is not a TOS violation. However - harrassment is a TOS violation, and if this person tripple neg-rated you without any prior communication or interratction, that's harrassment in my book. The abuse report may be worthless to file because it is shakey from a TOS perspective - but I don't think it could hurt, either. At the very least, you're putting your experience on record for Linden to review. Good luck, and enjoy SL!

If it's any consolation, I believe our current rating system is due for either a massive overhaul or being trash-binned completely. We've already seen a huge change in the ratings system this year since ratings went from costing only L$1 to L$25 per category and are now erased after six months. Witness this thread for proof that the Lindens realize something needs to be done about this.

First off, welcome to SL! Most people here are really friendly and helpful. (Ignore some of the rants we go on in the forums... I can't explain it, but this place stirs up lots of negative passion!)
Unfortunately, for some losers who really didn't get enough hugs as children, neg-rating has become some kind of self-affirming sport. Many of these wastes of flesh clearly are in need of help, but hey - remember, a negative multiplied by a negative is a positive. Wear your negs from these negative losers as a badge of honor! They are merely ZEROES trying to become ONES.
I got negged by a person and three of their alts last week. Her name is hilarious, because she's the opposite of an "Angel". I wear these 12 total negs with honor; getting negged by this loser is almost a right of passage!
Regards,
-Flip (Anyone sick of me posting under Commerce yet? Okay, I'll log out and log back in as Flip.)

Don't worry about neg rates from that person. Her illness prevents her from knowing the difference between right and wrong so they don't mean anything.
Her, and her little band of griefers, neg rate me on sight and I am rather proud of it.

Nothing against you in particular Travis, but this is what is wrong with the TOS in my oppinion. Anything someone does that you don't like can be classified as harassment if you really want it to be.

Gotta learn to laugh at them...

When I was new I cared about ratings - that was 9 months ago. I really don't see any reason for them anymore, haven't for quite sometime. They mean nothing to me. It's sad, but even as there are asses IRL there will be in SL too. You just have to get to know the people that are worth it. The rest - simply just aren't worth it. So welcome to SL, try not to let the idiots sway your opinion entirely and have a great time. ***In other words.... laugh your butt off that they are just tossing their lindens in this way to make their poor pathetic selves feel better! ROFL Sad but true.***
