My daughter is called Holly, simply cos its the only name my partner and I could agree on.

If I had more, I would consider

For a boy, it would be:

Star Destroyer

For a girl it would be:

Admiral Ackbar

You know if I married someone with the surname Fairplay, my kid would so be called Pandastrong.

I named my two girls
Giovannina (Jeo-van-nina)
Alexandria

If one was a boy he would have been Alexander Carmen. We so thought that Alexandria was going to be a boy we didn’t pick out a girl name. So we changed it. I do not believe in shortening names. I gave them that name call them that. So my girls are called Giovannina & Alexandria by every one even the kids at school. No one ever shortens there name around me.

"First", "Second", "Third" etc.

Or maybe named by date so I don't forget Birthdays. In the format "November Seventh Ritter", "April Eighth Ritter" etc.

If I had a boy he would be named Jack after my father then the middle name would be the last name of the mother. Both my father and I have our mother's last name as our middle name and I was named after my grandfather. (with the mother's agreeance of course)

My daughter is named Kathryn, my grandmother's name, and goes by Katie. Her middle name is after my mother, Jill. That's right... my parents are Jack and Jill in case ya missed that... hehe.

A friend of mine from my teen years is still a friend of mine (he is the brother of my best friend and husband of my kids baby sitter) had always wanted to name his kid Asphalt (her ass his fault). I told this to my wife. He has 4 kids with his wife. One kid out of wed lock he sees about 4 times a year and 2 he never sees. One day my wife was driving home and seen a sign “Stop the Asphalt Factory” she could not stop LOL. She had to pull over. It took her 10 min to tell me about the sign. IF you know Jeff you would know why it is so funny.

My son is named Liam, but he's been called Bear since he was about 6 months old not cause he's overly large or anything he was learning to crawl and would go along on all fours growling to himself like a grouchy old bear and it stuck. The next child I have will be Aidan, and for a girl I like Catriona, or Michelle.

Reve Monde and I had virtual twins on July 3rd. We welcomed a son and a daughter into our sl lives and they are named:

Reverie Leigh Rhodes-Monde
Beau Blue Rhodes-Monde

Reve picked the first names and I the middle names.

Carrera Victoria would've been my daughter's name if I'd been blessed with one. :(

For a girl, Lola (I haven't decided on the middle name).

For a boy, erm ... I don't know. Boy names are vastly less fun.

Personally I'd tend towards no nonsense names like Karen, Laura, Jacob.

Fascinating trend I noticed at a recent baby shower: My old next door neighbor and her inlaws have named all the girls with what apparently are family last names!

The new baby will be Carson Grace, and her cousins are named Merrick and Lowry. :)

There are many similarities between the forums and life.

I'm expecting my first grandchild, and the parents-to-be told us all they were planning to give it my second name as its first. A family christian name going two generations back. Guess who put a stop to that (and how)?

My ex. "You can't call it that, thats what my new partner and I have called our dog. "

So why didnt the parents-to-be already know that ? Because my son has not been allowed in that house for seven years, despite living within four miles. Suddenly its important that the grandchild be allowed to visit, and mustn't be confused by being called the same thing as me and the dog !

Ah well, it doesn't really matter, there are lots of nice names. And reconciliation would be good, however brought about. Just couldn't help seeing similarities with some behaviour I see in forum. Petty grudges, devious point scoring etc etc. Just shows, despite all the anonymous pseudo-personas which obscure us, what we meet here are, at rock bottom, real people. We can't demand they all be free of the defects we see in the real people around us, and in ourselves.

To get more firmly on topic, and deadly serious, I have the following to say. I used to believe in giving children unusual and distinctive names, and several of them.

I now advise the opposite. Give a very ordinary well-used christian name, and only one.
Why ? Because I believe there is a 30 or 40% chance that both the US and the UK are headed, in our children's or grandchildrens time, for being "police states" in which we are subject to more and more surveillance and control, "thought crime" is hunted down without civil rights, political dissent is labelled terrorism, and imprisonment without trial or charge becomes commonplace. In these circumstances the wise citizen would keep a very low profile, and a name shared with tens of thousands of others would be a definite help in not attracting attention. Though of course technological tracking will not rely on the name, at least you would find it easier to blend in in social groupings, and not be too easily remembered (or found again) if you put a toe out of line.

And there's me, cheekily pointing out to other people when they are a bit paranoid in forum. People, eh?

Oh, Ellie :-( How rotten of your ex.

I've always thought Zagnut would be a nice name for a child of any sex or from any planet.

Thanks Osprey - but remember you've only got my side of the story. Experience tells us it would seem totally different if my ex were telling it. Maybe dog-kicking was an essential path to recovering mental equilibrium.

More importantly - I love the idea of a child called Zagnut Osprey Therian. How wonderful. That really is a name to conjure with.

For a boy: Pope Wuzanazi
For a girl: Hitler Wuzacatholic

I think they're smashing names.

No matter how nice or pretty it sounds, little girls should never be named Treblinka and little boys should never be named Felatio
