Several people already commented on the lack of attention to BL by LL, and also on the fact that there are several empty plots. I have taken this opportunity to commandeer one and express this feeling with my build. It also has the following notecard From: notecard This not my land, and i haven't got permission to place this here. But BL is mostly a artistic festival where freedom rules. And i have taken this freedom and commandeered this plot.
I have done this out of dissappointment. Dissappointment with LL and with some of its residents.
Burning Live is a event that has lots of potential. But sadly LL has done very little to bring it to peoples attention, inworld or in RL. They could have used it to invite people in and show them the creative possibilties of sl. They could have made pics and interviews to get a media buzz going. But nothing happend.
And second, i'm dissapointed that there are plots that are completly barren. Atleast 1 because LL made it impossible to claim that land. But also because some people for some reason didn't use this opportunity to shine.
This is all a waste of perfectly good opportunties, and that makes me sad. So i have taken this opportunity to express my opinion, but more so to create art. I have never tried to make a sculpture and this is already the result of 1-2 hours of trying. And i think it cleary tells my statement, Sieze Opportunities!
It's a green hand that sieze opportunities. I have choosen for green because the SL logo is a green hand, and i want them to seize oppertunities like these.
Carpe Diem, Frans Charming.
I know it isn't a very well executed build, but it is driven by this raw emotion that i have got with how BL is handeld by LL. I hope you guys appreciate it. Burning Life 4 (207, 39)

Gets my vote, honestly I would have liked to have been able to hand my plot to a friend of mine who had an idea but lost the lotto, instead we both sorta lost out, as I had no idea this year x.x

I for one think it's awsome, Vive Gorilla building! Small note: From: someone This is all a waste of perfectly good opportunties, and that makes my sad.
Typo ^, my should be "me". Also I too am dissapointed... make alot of money in SL.. INSTANT media coverage.... build creativity in a annual event that is one of the awsome parts of the SL Community? ZILCH. This might not be LL's fault however, could just be the Media suckage. Edit to add: I think that your idea here is in excellent spirit of Burning Life and artistic expression, both in action AND in building. Your build looks great btw.

This included managing all aspects of the global community of mobile developers in the content and application space for mobile devices such as in the games and entertainment segments. In addition to Linden Lab and MacroMedia, David has held senior positions at Openwave and Novell, among others, where he managed developer marketing programs and was responsible for worldwide partnering including marketing services, account management, developer support and compatibility and testing labs.
Robin Harper - Senior Vice President, Community and Support Robin Harper joined Linden Lab in 2002, bringing extensive experience in the entertainment software industry. She is currently responsible for Second Life community development, growth and support, after spending her first two years managing all marketing activities. Earlier in her career she was the Vice President of Marketing at Maxis, a division of Electronic Arts (EA). At Maxis she played a prominent role in their emergence as the leader in PC simulation games and was a core member of the senior executive team that guided the company through their IPO and subsequent sale to Electronic Arts. Also while at Maxis, she established SimCity as one of the most recognized brand names in entertainment software, and was named one of the marketing 100 by Advertising Age/Newsweek. In addition to Maxis and Linden Lab, Harper has held senior marketing positions at Ninth House Network (corporate learning and online education) and at Mondo Media (online entertainment). She holds an MBA in marketing from the University of Chicago. I guess they are busy.

Hey Frans, thanks for the idea - after reading your post, I decided to go inworld and create a little guerrilla architecture on my own Burning Land parcel, which I've never been able to claim because of some technical glitch the Lindens never bothered to correct. So I started creating prims on an adjacent parcel and hauled them across to mine. Clumsy and stupidly unnecessary, but fun. Since I can't build what I wanted to, it's all coming out free-form and spontaneous.

I think that is great that you took over one of the bare plots! As for the marketing or the announcements of Burning Life, so true that there was not enough. I may be way off base here as well, but it could more be promoted as a Creative Build exhibit instead of an Art Exhibit. The reason I say this is that thought came to me when I asked a friend to go check out the sims with me. When I told him what it was he was like, art? no thanks. Even though I had not been here for the last one, I was able to persuade him to check it out. After we got there and saw the different builds, he told me he thought this would be more like going to a museum and he actually had a good time seeing the displays. Great job to everyone that participated. I was thoroughly impressed

Great post Fran! And your build is great too! I don't care what you say! The thing that irks me most about some of what you state, is the fact that *a lot* of people signed up for the BL lottery. To learn that there are many plots vacant because some have not taken advantage of the opportunity they were given, disturbs me. It just seems so inconsiderate of others that may have made use of that plot (granted I understand there will be emergency situations that would have kept people from doing their build, and those I do not count in my disappointment). I for one would have LOVED to finally get a shot at the BL. I know others who would have as well. So, just seems sad to me.

Torley added a little something. The plot itself is still hardly used, everyone is free to add something to it if you feel like it. Let's make it a community project.

secondlife://BurningLife4/207/39/ Underscores redirect to the SL website. A sim with spaces in the name gets the spaces removed. Like... "Encanto Isla" would be EncantoIsla.

Heya Frans! Got a chance to meet you at the SL Convention and Katrina relief auction last night. Hi again! The plot you built on is right across the walkway from mine! Glad to see it used. For awhile someone had put up a sandbox sign there and objects would shift by randomly it seemed. As for my thoughts on vacant lots and the publicity or lack thereof for Burning Life. There were roughly about 210 people who had signed up for the lottery and about 80 or so who won plots. I was amazed and overjoyed that I had won a plot and of course sad to see a lot of people who didn't.. even people I knew closely. Partly due to this factor and partly for the fun of collaboration, I decided to invite a crew of people to participate in my overall build. It was a concept based on a project a few real life friends were doing at the RL Burning Man entitled ' dreamhouse'. Basic premise being that there would be a distorted house shell built and each person would contribute their own room/space interpreting the theme. So.. with that overall idea in mind of creating a version of the dreamhouse to exist in tandem in SL.. I assembled in the end 11 people total. A few of them who had even tried to win plots and had not been picked. Overall, it has been a great experience collaborating on creating art with others and it is unfortunate more SLers could not take part in an event like Burning Life. So, when you head over the the Burning Life 4 sim and visit Frans great statement, visit our big red house across the way. Our version of the 'dreamhouse', the second life edition...complete with notecards and audio!
