When the lights go out in the US, SL really slows down, it empties out and becomes a ghost town. I love SL and I love meeting people there and having a good time but it's really difficult to secure friendships when time zones don't click. I was wondering if there are people interested in creating a space (island perhaps) with a focus on those living in a similar time zone (such as Aussies and Kiwi's). The idea is to have a place that has business and residential areas that are more heavily populated during hours closer to GMT+10 (give or take a few hours either way), hopefully it will create a more vibrant environment for those of us who can only get online after work and on weekends.
Any way, its an idea, needs work, needs people to get involved, perhaps a group who can pull together and purchase enough land to make it happen and even some Linden support would be great.

I was thinking maybe we should have a group called "I come from the land Down Under" or something Incidentally, I have just started playing SL in the last week, but have ideas to bring in some Australiana once I learn the art of prims.

While I am not down under, I do have a somewhat awkward sleeping schedule and am in world at all hours of the day and night. You are correct that between the SL hour's of say 1AM to around 7AM the world population drops dramatically and events are almost non-exsistant. I have been so bored at those times that I think I have organized my inventory to the point of being OCD about it. This does however bring up the frustration felt by many avies in Europe and elsewhere about missing some big events (ie. SL 2-year anniversary celebration) due to them being scheduled at US friendly times. But wouldn't the fact that there are no events being held during the times I listed above point to the fact that those in Europe make up a very small percentage of the population and are not hosting events themselves? So then is it LL's or event hosts responsibility to cater to such a small portion of the population. A perfect example is today was the Gay Pride parade finale. There were two different parades to accommodate as many time zones around the world as possible. The morning event aimed at the European crowd drew almost no one while the evening 6PM SL-time event had over 60+ avies scattered throughout the 6 different SIMS. While I am in no way suggesting that we should not take our European and Aussie friends into consideration, it appears that they are going to have to be proactive and make their own events during the down times when America sleeps. I support you guys having yoru own area that those of us awake at those hours know they can TP to to find events and be able to socialize. I am willing to help in anyway I can. So schedule those events and I for one will be there!
