Been hearing rumors of John McCain running as VP for Kerry. Can they even DO that? Has there ever been an instance of a President and VP from 2 different parties? Or would McCain be expected to become a Dem?

I thought the speculation was a Kerry/Gephardt ticket.
I saw a McCain quote, he said about being Kerry's VP, "I have totally ruled it out."

It will probably never happen. Too bad. McCain is one of a few Republicans I actually respect.

I first heard that a few weeks ago and got all excited. I was pulling for McCain last time around. I'd vote for that ticket in a heartbeat. But then I heard that McCain had flatly denied it or that he had any interest in it. I've also heard that Kerry would appoint McCain secretary of defense. As far as I'm concerned Kerry can pick anyone but Lieberman as a running mate. If the choice was between Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Lieberman I think I'd just have to shoot myself.
