I was wandering around online and came across this. It's a real-world replica from Cyan's offices of one of their in-game objects, a "journey cloth". I must admit that I found the resemblance striking.
Anybody know? Just curious, I've always liked the Myst series as well.

Actually that looks similar but isn't the real Second Life logo. The line from the thumb keeps going but an eye sticks out of it.

I came here from URU and yes that hand looks like the SL hand but no they have nothing to do with each other. It's kinda funny because when I saw the hand when I was looking for a place to go after URU closed the hand was one of the things that made me join SL.

There's no relationship between Cyan and Second Life, or between Cyan and Linden Lab. In fact when we first saw this logo on a t-shirt worn by a Cyan employee, we asked Cyan to please keep the symbol in-world (in Uru) so as not to create any confusion. Which they graciously agreed to do.
As Eggy pointed out, the eye-in-hand symbol is an ancient one, and our logo is a stylized version of the ancient symbol. As Hamlet Linden eloquently put it: The eye observes the world, the hand shapes it. For this reason, many cultures embrace the eye-in-hand as a symbol of creation that springs from knowledge--as do we. Take it as your invitation to help create a Second Life that inspires ever more wonder, ever more imagination. _____________________
