as my friend was creating his character today (which was erased due to inactivity while in Orientation Island and has to come back another time and start over.. but anyway) he made a peculiar comment that i thought was an awesome idea.

first off, his name is Loki Backbite.. just because i know it's okay to mention that and i think he deserves merit.. as this was his thought.

anyhoo, he mentioned how the Appearance mode could be put to excellent use as an aid to police sketch artists. imagine being able to make a detailed 3D representation of a criminal who you were reporting for some reason.. or for missing persons, etc.

could not this tool be used with amazing efficacy?

discuss..

Wow - very interesting thought. I don't have anything to say about the use as a person-finding tool, but I love to hear people's ideas.

I think this is an interesting idea, and not without merit.

I do think the appearance mode is a little... overwhelming, at times, though. Perhaps the addition of a template system or something would make it a little easier to start drafting a shape. Even to this day, I loathe the tedious sliding and fiddling that invariably comes from appearance doodling. It's not always easy to get the effect you're looking for.

Make it a bit more user-friendly, and our appearance system could see a wide variety of potential applications.

Criminology? Sure. Poser already does this.

Only problem is I don't think Havok 1 is up to complex logistics of CSI work on its own. But ultimately, definitely.

i can see where our Appearance mode might be daunting to your everyday Joe Schmo, but there's where the current sketch artists could keep their jobs.. learn SL and use that instead.

the color options would come in handy as well.. instead of "white, black, latin, etc..", they could get down near perfect skin/eye/etc. color as well.

i agree though, probably more useful in future terms than current, but still.. i agree with your agreements that agreed with my original post. or, i think my friend had a good idea.. hehe

Forensic Facial Compositing Software already exists

Forensic facial compositing software already exists; I suspect body compositing software also exists already.

I saw a reference to an online suspect appearance generator that accepts input from multiple users to produce its output.

Thats a cool idea Cybin, it may help, but I don't think you could get detailed enough with SL's current tools. There are still alot of facial points and body points that we can't modify (regretibly). I'd love to see it improve to the point where it could be more of use.

Awsome Sue. :D
