I'm fixing to invest my hard earned buckaroos into a PDA/Phone. I've done quite a bit of research but would love to hear from others that have one and/or have done research on them.

Some of the ones I've looked at:

h6315 - This is the one I'm leaning towards. I'm used to the Pocket PC interface because I have one right now and love it. I've also heard the they are discontinuing this one because they are coming out with a newer model. But when? I WANT ONE NOW!

Blackberry 7100 - I havn't done much research on this one. I'm not to impressed, though, I may just be ignorant. Software options don't seem to be to extensive. Doesn't seem to have the capabilites of word processing? It just seems to have the very basic PDA functions and email. Navigation also seems clunky. (I'm used to my handy dandy stylus.)

Treo 650
- Haven't done to much research on this one either. Has the palm OS so I would have lots of software options. I don't think it has wireless, though. Stylus, oooooooo. Also doens't seem to have the word processing feature.

I've looked at others but these are the main three. If you have any others you would like to shed light on, I would love to hear about them.

1) What would you recommend and why?
2) What would you recommend to stay away from and why?

Thanks for all your help.

OH! My service is with T-mobile so I would need a phone that is either unlockable or for T-mobile. (I guess I could change service if the phone is just tooo spectacular!)

I just bought a Treo 650 about 3 weeks ago. So far I like it a lot.

One phone I was strongly warned against was the Siemens X66 or something like that. Basically it stored everything in RAM so if your battery ever died, you lost data. I've heard it is the biggest trainwreck of a phone ever.

I love the speakerphone on the Treo. I have unlimited data and that is nice. (through Cingular)

It has excellent battery life and the signal strength is better with Cingular than with my Motorola.

With the Docs to Go software (sold separately) I can open and edit word and excel files. mNotes allows syncing with my lotus notes in the office.

I don't have experience with other PDA phones, but after a month or so of research, I decided on the Treo.

You may want to just browse the reviews over at cnet.com

This will probably be my next phone. With PocketPC and built in WiFi means you have a mobile Skype phone.

This is probably just my experience, but I will not purchase a PDA without built in finger/thumb keyboard again. I know the keys are small, but I find I can work them quite well.

I currently use a Kyocera 7135, which I love. It's 2 years old now though, and I've been strongly considering the Treo 650 for a little while. I played with it at the store and I was VERY impressed with it, especially the keyboard, which despite its size is remarkably easy to use. I've got to find out more about the multimedia capabilities before I decide whether to make the switch since I use the Kyocera MP3 player a lot.

The Treo seems to be the way to go right now, although I'm curious to see if Kyocera will come out with a new smartphone in the near future since they're long overdue for an update from the 7135. As for the others you mentioned, I'm not a big fan of Blackberry. I've never heard of the third one so I'm afraid I'm can't be much help there.

As for your question about word processing, QuickWord has been available for the Plam OS for quite some time now, and it's pretty good. It came with my 7135, along with QuickSheet (Excel) as part of the QuickOffice suite. It's not quite as powerful as the real thing, but hey, what do you want, it's on a cell phone. It's definitely good enough.

Ok, Blackberry not an option anymore. Now's its a toss up between the hp 6315 and the Treo 650. The Treo has better reviews but he hp is just groovy. Questions about the Treo, are you able to talk on the phone and connect to the internet at the same time? Does it have Wi-Fi. Does it have HTML browsing or just WAP?

I HTML browse on my Treo. There is a browser that comes with the phone and one I downloaded. I like them both although they each have features that I like. I can pretty much do everything on my phone. Even online banking and shopping can be done through my phone.

The one thing I dislike about the Treo is with the phone feature. To dial you get a little screen of numbers that you can press with your finger or with the stylus. You can also use the tiny keypad.

The problem I have is when dialing into conference calls. When I have to enter any numeric code after my call is connected it sometimes hears the numbers twice. So if my conference call code is 12345, it may think I hit 112223445. Sometimes it takes me two or three tries to get it right.

I can't say that isn't my own stupidity though. It might be that I have the speakerphone loud and it hears the tones internally and externally. Now that I think about it I will have to try it without. I have a program that modifies the volume of the speaker and the sensitivity of the mic. Maybe I just borked it. lol
