These are the folks who licensed it from Kermitt. Nice to see they kept it the same.

Philip Rosedale - Founder & CEO
Philip Rosedale has an extensive background in the development and pioneering of streaming technology, having built his first computer in 4th grade, and started his first computer software company while still in high school. In 1995 he developed FreeVue, a low-bitrate video conferencing system for Internet-connected PC's, resulting in the acquisition of his company in early 1996 by RealNetworks. For 3 1/2 years, Rosedale served at RealNetworks as Vice President and CTO, where he was responsible for the development and launch of RealVideo, RealSystem 5.0, and RealSystem G2. In 1999 Rosedale returned to San Francisco, joined Accel Partners as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence, and began the basic research that would become the technology behind Linden Lab. Rosedale holds a BS degree in Physics from the University of California at San Diego.

Yes, probably friends of Philip. I think that LL told some friends of theirs about Tringo, and they helped get the maker of Tringo and the Donnerwood people together.

Your post makes it look like Philip is the Founder & CEO of Donnerwood.

Heh heh.

Yeah, I wonder if the WSJ feel like patsies, now. Who knows!

The press is all a big joke, anyways. It's so manipulated it's not funny.

I wouldn't be particularly suprised to see that Kermit actually works for LindenLabs and was contracted to make tringo... heh

"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches."

It scores in the wrong order.

CODE

Pre score:

.....
..xx.
.xxx.
.xxx.
.....

When properly scored becomes...

.....
.....
.x...
.x...
.....

This web version scores it as

.....
..xx.
.....
.....
.....

Kermit couldn't work for LL or he would be ineligible for the Game Development Contest.

Does it James? I just thought the information was interesting, especially since us old beta's know that Lusk sim was named after a RL street near LL.

I personally found this all very interesting. Would it suprise me if LL paid 10k for tringo? Nope. Would it bother me? Naw as long as there has been businesses, one hand has been washing the other.

Its all just good PR isn't it. This is how the RL operates. This could be just another push for commercialism. Apparently thats what the ppl of SL want, who am I to judge.

If that is the opinion you drew from the information then that is you opinion. I just supplied the information that took me about 10 sec to collect.

There is a difference between a developer insentive and actualy working for them. (the difference is a contract)

And the fact they own your soul thereafter. Ask Philip. I'd bet he has a nice jar of crushed souls next to his "Inbox."

Seriously though, people like Kermitt (and other gamemakers for that matter) are after something a bit different than what LL per se wants. LL works on the tools to make this happen - then incent the users to make it happen. Contracting out users to build content happens on occasion (example: the new welcome area), but in general the userbase makes stuff happen without LL's direct involvement.

I also doubt Tringo would have been so widely successful had LL had a direct hand in it and "kept it in check."
