I've been in this game since January and have observed the price of things and everything else assoiciated with the game. I really think this is what will happen to this game, mind you it is just my opinion and I could be wrong. Charging for creatiion of objects is really tedious and here's the chain reaction as to why. Charging 10 bucks a pop to create shapes and turn into nice objects is pointless. Ok say someone has no idea about the game, but had a rather good idea of how object creation goes. So he/she decides that they want to make their objects only to find out they are charged for it. They than learn in order to keep their stipends up is to sell their objects or learn scripting or to be social and ask people to rate them, teach classes etc. How long will this same process go on until utter boredom sets in? Eventually people get tired of doing the same thing over and over again to generate better income and alot of people aren't into the social aspect of the game. If everyone that joins will eventually want to create their own objects, which will happen, then what's the point in selling something that others will just buy when they are newbs and make something better when they get good at building later? I really can't see paying 14.95 a month of being extremely limited in doing tedious chores in order to be allowed to build what I want to build. I guess it just goes along with any online game, I just see people getting majorly bored with social events eventually and they just lose interest simply because they don't want to go out and earn a meager income in the game to create a limited number of objects and then be taxed on those objects. This is a pc video game for crying out loud, why does it even need to remotely resemble our real lives? Taxes aren't fun and charging people them in a game no less is even less fun. Fun means allowed to do what you want, not be limited to a tax based system. I realize this might be to keep out the kids and all that but it still cancels out the fun factor. I say no taxes at all, no light bill, that is really dumb, a light bill in a game? In all if they wanna keep things rolling along I'll say 2 words, Fresh Content and 2 more words Fresh Ideas. This is the only way I can see keeping the game interesting and getting rid of the taxation thing, it is really annoying.

Taxes have a reason. They may not be 'fun' but they do serve a purpose. They limit building. Too much building can (easily) cause sims to become completely bogged down and slow clients to a halt. So, you're charged for the lag you create. If you're a sociable person who can't build much, you can host events and just buy the things you need. If you're not very sociable, but a good builder, you can build things and sell them. If you neither want to socialize nor put anything up for sale, then you're free to build on your own land, but the system rewards people who contribute to the community in some way.

Fresh content... everything is user-created, that is the beauty of it... content doesn't get stale because people don't let it. If someone stops coming into the world, their stuff goes public and people delete it to make money. People scavenge the detritus and create new things in its place.
This isn't some static content slash-and-burn... and it's not The Sims either, which if you've heard all the things I have, resembles real life WAY more than SL ever will.
Taxes are simply a form of balance... there are balances in ALL games, in one form or another.

You aren't allowed to build whatever you want because other people would like the opportunity to build, too. Without the $10/prim charge and weekly taxes, anyone could buy up an entire sim, fill it with junk (or big beautiful flying castles in the sky, but most likely junk), and leave it indefinitely. This promotes a few things: - The need for planning and good budgeting skills
- Continual new development as owners sell off old or unused property to make money
- Pressure to be as efficient with your buildings as possible (a benefit when less objects = less lag)
- The need to be a contributing member of SL in order to fund your works, whether it be socially or by creating items for sale
In my mind, having to save up your money and work to slowly build up your dream palace/skyscraper/airship/treehouse makes the achievement so much more impressive.
