i planted some bamboo under the platform at fate park today. it looks very nice if i do say so myself. i've discovered that building plants is HARD. let me tell you, i have undying respect for people like tracey, candie and matina that've produced great looking trees and such.

i hope to rank among you guys one day, but i have a LONG way to go. ultimately it's the texturing that's so difficult to work with. but sometimes altering the shape or size just a bit wholly changes the perspective. sometimes that's good; sometimes it isn't.

thank you candie for giving some textures to practice with. i'll work on my nutcracker too. i'm not really gonna decorate fate park or fate square for the holidays this year. i need the time to work on spring presentation. but i'll finish the soldier and put him up for next year.

thank you to the person who put the falling leaves in fate square. they are lovely indeed. (i don't know how public a figure they are so i won't mention their name without asking.)

oh my look how long this is. is it okay to just post musings in this forum without screaming about griefers or worrying about 1.2? i hope so.

It is nice to talk about something other than pricing, if only for a moment.

The leaves sounds wonderful. I've seen some beautiful snow, and I've seen a little railroad running round a twinkling and decorated tree. Hyperreal.

I'm not quite advanced enough with LSL yet to know, but I'm hoping I'll be able to script a tree that grows over time, maybe using a fractal-like algorithm for branches...

Maybe even have it grow "fruit" which will then fall to the ground, roll around a bit randomly and grow a new tree.

And if I'm really feeling creative, I'll throw in some genetic type algorithms to make them grow differently depending on some randomness and maybe even some environmental effects (ground altitude, wind, etc)

A project that's on the list but way down the road as I don't have nearly the skill yet...

Kex -- that sounds like a really awesome project if you can get it off the ground.

Trees, and Flowers, and Plants... oh my!

- Ok on the Boardwalk I put a box with a mistletoe alpha on it. The box contains a notecard I wrote up "How to Make Trees, Flowers, and Plants". The box also contains a few alphas to practice with.

- I scheduled a class for Friday at noon on how to make trees, flowers, plants. We'll cover the steps, the tricks, the tips, the mysteries, and triumphantly produce holiday plants :)

- I have 4 boxes of about 25 trees each for a total of 100 that I give away free. They're divided into trees for each season. Donations appreciated, but not necessary. Just IM for copies.

- I have a gazillion single leave alpha textures of every variety you can imagine. If you'd like some to play with, just IM me.

- I had a great time with Khamon yesterday. We walked through making plants together, then I went to visit Fate park, which is a wonderful place! Natural landscaping, and that bamboo is awesome.

- Yay Khamon and the rest of the people who advocate preservation and restoration of natural landscapes! Yay mountains! Yay hills! Yay lakes and rivers and streams and trees and plants and flowers and falling leaves! Yay Oneirnaut for removing the hole from Varney mountain! Yay waterfalls and Jake for making such beautiful ones! Yay fish! Yay deer! Yay reindeer and a big yay to Arito for making me some. Yay Sulumor! (You know why.) Yay snow! Yay rainforests! Ok I'm done yaying.

Thanks,
Candie

I was the one who put the leaves on your property.

Everyone knows me, so no need to worry about posting my name, but definitely thanks for the consideration.

The leaves were made by Francis Chung and given to me. They were too pretty not to have on display and Khamon, your park is so lovely, it seemed like a perfect pairing. :)

Phillip, definitley drop by Kissling and check out the leaves. They fall so naturally to the ground, responding to the wind, it is breathtaking. Really one of the most elegant uses of scripting I've seen in game.

And everyone else, check them out as well. If you like them, be sure to drop Francis a note, or better yet, a couple of bucks. She always refuses to take money from me for the things she makes. I figure, if I can get a lot of people to give her a little money each, she'll have a harder time returning it all :)

I'm glad you like the leaves Khamon! I love the park! And please, don't worry about rambling. If not for ramblers, these forums wouldn't exist ;)
