I was browsing through the net whilst I came across the guy's website who was asked to do the first SL website... http://www.eriqchangstudio.com/secondlife.htmlThat's a pic of it... it looks great but it wasn't used because it converyed SL as too much of a game instead of a medium to create whatever you want. TBH, If i'd have seen that website when I first heard of SL, I'da joined straight away, it looks a lot betetr than the old one with the womans face on it, but I know how they didn't want SL to be thought of as a game. He was also gonna make the LL logo... http://www.eriqchangstudio.com/id_linden.htmlThe SL logo... http://www.eriqchangstudio.com/id_secondlife.htmlHere's his main website... http://www.eriqchangstudio.com/indexpage.html

I'm wondering if the hand was LL's idea or an idea from that guys art that LL decided to use.
I personally prefer the quality of that work to the stuff we have now, however it does portrey SL as too much of a game.

TBH = To Be Honest
I REALLY like those website designs, they are mystically whimsical. That's a great find, Alan, I don't know how you found them -- please share how, hehehe -- but eh... you know what bothers me about the current SL website on repeated reads? TOO MUCH WHITE SPACE. Some is fine, but like, the current CS page has a lot of junk gutter on the side, making the page needlessly long to scroll through.
Contrast these two:
http://secondlife.com/comstandards.php http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php
The first one's the older one, surprisingly enough. Ugh.
I very much like that simple, effective "BE REBORN" slogan. It carries quasispiritual overtones, which doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.

I found that site when I was nobbishly (not noobishly ) searchin for 'second life' in google image search. Yes Torley, that 'Be Reborn' slogan is cool and the colours of the logo are also nice. The whiteness of the new website was cool for a while, but white emptiness is sorta boring now, however the black website, before the one we have now was ugly... LOL

Cool find. It is a very nicely done site design. I am curious about one thing, though. The site pics mention "2.0". Since we have not been there yet, I am wondering if at one time way back we were supposed to go to a 2.0 version and didn't?

I'm impressed you found this! I really like the current logo as opposed to the one he suggested. The current logo implies a creation process while the other he proposed says nada to me. I do prefer his website design, it's lovely work. Amazing what pops up on Google isn't it?

I've known about this website... since beta! I imagine the 2.0 was supposed to be what Second Life is... as opposed to LindenWorld. See the "coming fall 2002"?

The site design that guy was making slightly reminds me of There... The sorta flat cartoonish shapes and twirls. If you look closely at the screenshots the guy has on the website, SL looks 2D! lol

From: someone ...If you look closely at the screenshots the guy has on the website, SL looks 2D! lol Yes, 3D was only added in v1.1; prior to that, SL was black and white too, it was sorta like Steamboat Willie with scripting and griefers, oh and chat was a late-comer too, we called that version "Talkies". Kids these days... (Let's see if I can get Eggy to add this to the SL History site)

There is no sanctuary.... I haven't reread that in years. Gosh it's probably boxed up in the attic by now. Only in the book, there is sancutary.
