I found that article really interesting. I have just started getting into EQ2 a bit more - I have had a hard time really getting into it in light of World of Warcraft, but there is a lot I like about it. I am not surprised Sony went the route they did - if you have ever played EQ2, the entire thing is a giant ad in some ways. You can't get into the game without an Nvidia, Kingston and Intel ad, and during the signin, there is a popup window generally advertising some purchaseable content that you have to close before the login will proceed.
The fact that they got in on the eBay action is not surprising, the only thing that is surprising is how long it took them to do so. I am really curious if others will follow - even among EQ2 players, it is quite controversial, which is why they only offer Station Exchange on certain servers. The net result seems to be that the people in it for pure play experience are staying on the non-Station Exchange servers, which improves things for all involved - those interested in power grinding to make money are up against others doing the same thing, and those not interested don't have to deal with the farmers as much now. _____________________

I am really curious if others will follow Microsoft's new XBox360 will have micro-transaction built in and they will be setting up a virtual Marketplace. I assume you know that as it's been heavily reported, but additionally, there are some interesting things happening in some game dev circles (the smaller ones). I'm just watching for now. Not sure how they tie in yet. |

tbh, haven't been keeping links. Sorry. Last one I saw though was associated with S2. They have a forum where modders/freelancers compete(?) to provide content for their new game - looks like they're establishing a pipeline and resource pool. There's a couple others I've been told about. I'll pass them on as I get them.
