 I have an ati radion 9000 pro 128 mb, windows xp athlon with 512 mb ram and 100gb hard drive....I was able to play through the entire orientation but when I went to see the ampitheater the game now crashes. I am stuck on the stage and am unable to go anywhere. It just freezes my computer and I have to reboot...if amyone has an idea of what I am doing wrong I would appreciate the help
Thanks in advance.

ATI and AMD don't mix very well with SL. It sounds like that is what the problem is. However, these issues may be fixed in 1.1, which is coming soon.

In the meantime, if you can get access to a different computer, that would be good.

Well, 1.1 is currently in beta testing. (www.secondlife.com/preview)

I am predicting we will see 1.1 by the end of next week, however, some people are saying later. I do know, however, it will be before the end of this month.

Don't give up on SL, its an amazing piece of software. Try to find a friend's computer to play on in the meantime. :)

One of my slower machines has a 1.3 mhz Athlon, 512 mb ram and a Radeon 8500 (128mb), and Second life does just fine. I suspect the problem lies elsewhere. What kind of sound card do you have?

Teeny, the AMD and ATI issue is a very well known issue with SL. I really suspect that is the problem.

Using CAT drivers v3.1 (which can be found at the ATI website in a link under the current CAT drivers) will fix most ATI/AMD combo related crashes. So if you know how to downgrade your drivers, you should try that out, and the game should work fine.

James has a Linden told you that the ATI/AMD combo might actually be fixed in 1.1? Or is this just you thinking 1.1 is the answer to everybody's problems? (Which it mostly is)

I could have sworn that a Linden told me it might be fixed...not sure, though.

Instead of posting to the forums, Lindens should just tell James what they want everyone to know.
