What does ever one think about Dungeons & Dragons Online http://www.ddo.com/ I have been looking for a good Sword & Sorcery type MMORPG that a friend and I can play. We both like a simpler game style of SL. He tried Final Fantasy Online and didn’t like all the key strokes to do things. Any suggestions on a simpler game then that??

Ultima is available free. Follow the instructions at http://www.ultimafark.com/ except for the part about joining the Fark Guild (unless you like Fark, that is).

You should try Guild Wars too, it's pretty simple. FFXI isn't really a good example of a good fantasy mmo... it's waaaay too complicated and takes forever to do anything.
Also, Guild Wars doesn't have a monthly fee.
(Yes, this is also a shameless plug to get more people from SL into the game and our guild. It's still fun though.)

ARe we talking $10 every 6 months or are we talking $50 every 6 months. If it's only $10 every 6 months then I can see it. But if it's $50 every 6 months then I would rather just pay my $9.99 a month and be done with it.

You know really I would love to see a Bethesda Softworks Elder scroll turned in to a MMORPG.

From: Lupo Clymer And your point is? What the hell? I was just commenting on my picture. If you don't get it, play D&D paper edition.

I am really thinking of going back to UO (was on it YEARS ago) or getting DDOL when it comes out. Is any one else use disappointed by Guild Wars?

Is any one else use disappointed by Guild Wars? So disappointed, I find eq2 a better experience even if it is pricier. I do like the cut scenes from GW but over all I find EQ2 to be the better eyecandy!

I love it when computer RPG players make fun of tabletop RPG players. Mr. Pot, meet Mr. Kettle.
There is a monthly fee to play Ultima Online, unless you play one of the illegal pirate shards on a server emulator. The graphics for UO are dated, but that can actually be a plus if you've got an older system (the 2D client is crisper and better looking than the 3D client). As the first truly massive MMORPG, it has the most established community base and a surprisingly resiliant game system.
I might try D&D online, but right now I've got the Sony package deal that gives me Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest I&II, and Planetside for one monthly fee. That's enough to get me to cancel World of Warcraft and City of Heroes, and put Project Entropia on the back burner indefinitely.

Waiting for D&D Online...have they come out with a better release date?
Nisa, EQII was a laggy ass mess for me. I didn't run it on a crappy computer either and upgraded the video card to be able to play the game. Still did not help. I would get killed before I even knew I was fighting.
I did Guild Wars during one of their open beta weekend tests. I thought it was great but didn't get far enough to really size the game up. For the free online offer though, I may invest the 50 bucks for the game.

From: someone Blayze, it may not have been your computer it could have been your connection. I know some people who actually play it on dial up I very rarely experience lag, before I built my new system, I did experience lag while zoning but then EQII is known to memory leak during zoning. My ram took care of that. Here's my system specs: and yes I built this AMD opetron 3200+ Gigabyte Nforce 3 mobo 2 gigs dual channel corsair ram 550 watt pws ATI Radeon x800 pro - 256mb CL Audigy2 Platinum ZS with breakout box 2/300gb sata drives stripe raided 21 inch Sony digital monitor

LOL sorry I have 3 computers in the house and buy computer equipment all day long. I definitely can't remember the specs of every computer. Well, all the other online games have expansions in addition to their monthly fees, so I'm not real sure where your cost savings is. You don't have to upgrade GW if you don't want to, and can still continue to play the basic game. Comparing Guild Wars to Everquest or DDO is like comparing apples and oranges. They're two different online experiences. Guild Wars may not be your style, anymore than MMOs like EQ/FFXI/WoW are really my style. If you like Diablo-style gaming in a centralized world, GW is something you should check out. DOn't expect it to offer the features that other MMOs have, tho...that's not what Guild Wars was designed for.

I just cancelled City of Heros because it is just too damn repetitive and, due to my son's coaxing, reopened my account in Star Wars Galaxies, only to find it's almost a completely new game! I am so lost! Had to repec my fencer, and now the only missions I can find are either vastly too tough for me or vastly too easy. I might be brabbing WoW very soon.
