Hi guys. I just got a DVD+R drive and started exploring backing up some of my DVDs.

Does anyone out there have a guide with software recommendations?

Basically I have a few DVDs I want to backup and I have some video on my PC that I would like to place on a DVD.

Is there sort of a one-stop shop for that sort of thing?

Thanks.

I found that for copying movie DVDs, DVD X-Copy was a very good application. Unfortunately, the MPAA sued the company into bankruptcy, and it no longer seems to be available. I have yet to find anything that can beat Macrovision copy protection.

On the other hand, I just got Pinnacle Studio Plus (version 9). To me, this one does the best job of video rendering to DVD I've seen. Unlike a few other DVD authoring apps I've tried, the end result actually looks like video tape, not blurred, jittery film. Its fairly inexpensive (under 200 bucks), but for the price, it does a decent job.

Look into DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org) for copying DVDs; free software let's you copy only the movie or everything. You'll need authoring software though, and for that I'd recommend the full-blown Nero Suite. www.ahead.de. I've used Nero for as long as I can remember and very very rarely use anything else. There's a free demo on their site.

He beat me to the recommendation...but yes I use DVD shrink for backing up (and thank goodness I did - the ex ran off with our DVD collection) and Nero for Everything else. One other recommendation is DVDecryptor...that's good for cyclic redundancy errors aka copy protection.
