As a (former) player StarCraft, has anyone ever asked this question?

To me it was one of the biggest hits that Blizzard has ever made (next to Warcraft). I enjoyed it immensely and I've been dying to ask this question:

Would anyone particularly know why there wasn't a sequal created to this? Even RED ALERT got its sequals! StarCraft had way better capability. I've heard about a somehow 'StarCraft Ghost' But I believe that was cancelled for some unknown reason.

Can anyone shed some light onto this?

They planned one, but it's still vaporware as far as I know. For those that completed the Warcraft III campaign, Blizzard had a "teaser" for Starcraft II that ran on the WarIII engine. And it looked pretty damned good.

My guess is they came to a point where they had to decide what business route to take - and that was the route of the MMO and "Starcraft: Ghost."

I always saw StarCraft as a part of the WarCraft franchise--it took an immensely popular title (WarCraft II) and improved on it by orders of magnitude. What's more, the characters and storylines drew on eclectic influences and were crafted with a genuine creative focus rarely seen in electronic media.

WarCraft III was received similarly, though I haven't played it myself, and I've heard mixed reviews on WoW. I think Blizzard just wants to maintain a high standard and be seen as an innovator. We might still see a new Starcraft game, but not unless it's head and shoulders above everything else on the market.

Myself, I've lost interest in wargames, and the only game w/ battle elements that remains playable for me is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, and that very rarely. No offense to the "What's RL?" crowd, but SL is my computer game of choice these days.

I mainly played Starcraft for the stoyline.

I love and hate how Alpha Centauri stole video clips from Baraka for some of the cinematic sequences. I really want the sequel to Alpha Centauri, but I guess it's only available on the net these days (sigh). I always played as the Hive.
