That's right! The buffers are overfilled with bling, hootchie hair, and god knows what else (the Taj Mahal?), to the point that even people with NO ATTACHMENTS are having issues. OldJanitorGuy Linden can't keep up with the workload!
So in the meantime, until the repurpose SkyNet to handle assets and teleports, let's all just drop out attachments, bling, and even CLOTHES and TP BUCK NAKED! It helps, believe me. Ever since the last update, I have been teleporting to and fro, while others Bit' and Moa', because I'm down to my undies, or simply au naturale.
Notice on startrek how they rarely have TP issues? What are they wearing? Nearly skintight body suits, DUH!!!.
So, for now, just TP naked, no attachments, some underoos if you MUST, but the entire grid will work better, and you'll feel better, too.

Yes, of course. Please wear undies when TP'ing to Pg areas.

Unless you can get dressed really, really quick (which is something most men learned how to do in their teens). I can actually get dressed while running through hedge rows and jumping over fences, but its been a long time since I had to.
Anyway, the SL risk is that after you materialize, your clothing will be missing from your inventory. What then? You could rez some prims, I suppose, if the area allows it. Or you could hide behind trees, or teleport again real quick-like. But my hunch is that Murphy Linden will make sure that if you're in that much trouble, teleporting will not work no matter how naked you are.
Logging off won't help you. When you log in, there you are. PG naked.
Here are the steps I think will prevent you from having any problems:
1. Rez a cube. 2. Sit on the cube. 3. Back away from the computer, and go watch TV or read a book or something. Maybe go out and spend some time with friends. 4. When you come back, SL will have safely logged you out for inactivity.
There you go! Problem-free session. Works every time.

Actually, because of the way avatar textures are produced, taking all your clothes off can make things worse. Basically, this is what happens: your computer downloads the clothing layers from the SL asset server. It then "bakes" them together into one file, which is reuploaded as a new asset. This is why some avatars can occasionally be seen to have some rendering glitches, visible to all other users. Obviously, detaching attachments --particularly scripted attachments-- will improve the chances of a successful teleport process.

Is Burke actually getting somewhere with this proposal? Reason I mention it is, earlier today I was logging in and the client sat there with some goofy message about "waiting for clothes to materialize." Then after a while it gave me some caution about how others would see me normally and let me in -- but I was effectively in mouseview for another minute or so, then everything was back to normal. Maybe others have run into this routinely, but I've been away for a while, and recently just tinkering on my parcel... Didn't really think twice about it until I saw this thread.

This hasn't worked for me at all. I removed all my attachments and still can't tp no matter how may times I try. Relogging doesn't help either.
Sigh.

What texture size is the single file baked into? 1024x1024? I've been telling some people who upload 1024x1024 textures for head/upper/lower body that its really a bit excessive and rude to consume resources at such a level, and that 512x512 would do just fine (all of which is true). However, if the final "single" texture is baked at 1024x1024 (or ever 512x1024 due to avatar sizes), then it would make absolutely no sense to upload higher than 512x512. Any idea on the size restrictions of the final JPEG2000? Thanks, -Flip

Hey Flipper. Here's some bits of info I picked from the Wiki. From: someone What image formats should I use for upload into SL? Tga (supports alpha channel) or bitmap. When you upload an image the SL client will internally convert it to JPG2000. Avoid saving your work as jpeg, the quality will be lower because of the double jpeg conversion.
What are good sizes for textures? Textures should be as small as possible. Even if you have a fast internet connection, your computer can only display a limited amout of texture data. When you upload images into SL, width and height will be automatically resized to nearest powers of two (16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024).
So, as far as a baked size JPEG2000 it depends on the size of the image you upload. As for a maximum I read some people were able to make a 2048x2048 load up but there is really no reason whatsoever to use such a size as it is bloating for SL and its users. If someone uploads a 1024x512 then my guess that's how it is baked within SL since Wiki mentions "to the nearest powers of two". Of course, I am assuming independent width and height baking here rather than uniform size. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses, but I knew that part about the initial uploads. The part I need to know about is when it bakes the single image that is passes to others of your avatar's current clothing set up. Let's say you put on an outfit that has a skin, hair, undershirt, shirt, pants, and shoes. Instead of sending all those textures, SL thinks once, and puts together a temporary SINGLE texture combining all of those clothing layers at once. I'm wondering what max size that image can be... my guess is 1024x1024, which would make it redundant - or ever worse - to have clothing sizes bigger than 512x512. Does that make sense now? That's also why when you put clothes on, you see it locally, then you see it get blurry, and re-rez. When it gets blurry and re-rez's is after the single image has been built and sending that single image to yourself, and all other avatars around you. Regards, -Flip

Idunno. I guess it's okay to wear clothes. I usually have one multi-purpose attachment that I'm probably still working on (at the moment I have the Skylunker's Helper).

From what I have seen, SL seems to "progressively" load images like you see on webpages where it starts off blury and then starts getting more detail. Being JPEG format it will have a progressive capability. My guess is that SL makes use of this for streaming. In response to the re-rezzing of images, when it does re-rez the images I've noticed the AV completely re-rezzing at times. So, I do wonder if SL bakes a single image like you are referring to. Hrrm. If this is the case then my guess is just about as good as yours is.
