Hi all

Has anybody else had problems withtheir inventories since 1.6.6 went live ?

I have logged in countless times ( on advice from live help ) and i still have a problem.

Basically all of my animations are gone, textures, notecards and anything not saved in a subdirectory in my inventory.

Eg

Under textures i have a directory "body textures" - which is still there and has things in it.
But under textures i had about 2-300 textures i hadnt filed in an appropiate category yet - none of those are there - same with all the other main folders.

Even searched on a couple off names i know should exist as i uploaded them yesterday - nada - nothing

Now textures i can live with by uploading them again ( using hours and hours and money :-(

But objects that i use regularly and scripts that I have recently updated I am pretty much stuffed without (how do you take an off-world copy of an object, or ananimation that was purchased and is no modify ?)

I hope this is just a glitch and that someone knows how to get the stuff back, as frankly I am not going to re-invest months of time rebuilding stuff i have lost only to have it disaapear in the next release as well.

ugh! This sounds horrible Adriana! :( Unfortunatly, I cannot find any threads where others have had the exact same issue. To get a quicker response, you may want to post your question in either:

Technical Issues
/111/1.html

or

Hotline to Linden
/139/1.html

Of course you will only get feedback from the Lindens if you post it in the Hotline.

Good luck with this issue!!

I noticed that if there are many things/textures in a folder it takes quite some time to show up, I see the sub-folders right away. Maybe if you open the folder and wait a long time your things will appear too.

If that is the problem, I found a way to fix it. I sorted by date and put all the least used things in storage prim boxes. Rememeber to name the boxes so you can easily find things you want. To make a storage box click Tools from the menu up top then hit select tools, then hit create. click on the ground and you will see a box. Click the more button on the edit menu for that box, click the content tab and drag your things into the content. It takes a while because you can't paste to a box, drag your items one by one. Hope that helps.

How horribly dreadful. I have spent untold hours on my inventory, and often think about what a waste of time that would have been if somehow it all disappeared. I especially don't like the fact that there is NO WAY to back it up. Everything else you spend hours doing on a computer has ways to back it up.

I will be interested to see how this turns out.

I rememeber , months ago, I lost an entire folder of animations too. Some of which I paid 500L for. I didn't bother replacing many of them because I was a tad afraid the same thing would happen again. I wonder why animations seem to disappear.

Update

Ok, a day goes by ( nearly anyway )

No word from Lindens

No sign of my inventory coming back - even after opening it and waiting for an hour in a vain hope it would refresh eventually.

Now i am in a quandry - do i start to pull out the old stuff i do have and start updating it to the best of my memory and find when i wake up next week that it has been replaced by the original lost one, do i spend my hard earnt lindons uploading my missing textures again (i am in the same scenario as the previous post about purchased animations - am not going to spend 1,000's without a guarantee that they will stay put) or do I just sit back and wait ?

I have customer's waiting now - luckily I have postponed them until next week as I already had RL commitments - but what happens next week ?

I will update with any news on this as I think if it goes unchecked/fixed that it is scandalous that Lindens can happily destroy months of work and not offer either an explanation or a basic back up procedure ( even if they charge for it )

RL Analogy -
You hire a shop and the landlord says he has to redecorate it - when you return to the shop the following week all of your equipment has been broken or is missing
-
do you just say "oh well these things happen - shame i couldnt get the place insured !"
Or do you have an epileptic fit and threaten to rip him limb from limb unless he repairs the damage ?
(I know which one i do, and i am a passive person normally)

Adriana,

I had a massive inventory wipe several months ago. I lost about 50% of my objects and textures folders. I am guessing about 2500-3500 items were lost. LL took a while to respond, but finally they did stick some of their best technical people on it.

Unfortunately my inventory items were never recovered. Phoenix Linden worked many hours to try to restore them. After several days of working with Phoenix, I determined it was in my best interest to just accept the loss of the items. It had become very stressful for me to work at the restoration process, time that I determined would be better spent aquiring brand new inventory. Philip Linden explained that LL could not realistically financially compensate people for inventory loss, the total value of inworld items exceeds the assets of Linden Labs.

I am hoping for you that your items may be easier to retrieve. I would go ahead and make a list of all of the items you know are missing. Try to be as accurate as possible w/ the spelling. I would then call LL and ask for this problem to be resolved. I beleive they will need that list to attempt to restore your items.

The good that came from my ordeal was unexpected. After posting my issues publically there was an outpouring of concern from the community. People started replacing items that had vanished. I made quite a few new friends from this incident, and gained a new perspective into my own SL experience. While all the gadgets, textures, and sheep paraphonalia are really cool, people are what makes SL so great.

I too was considering leaving SL because of my loss. I am thankful that I did not follow through with that decision.

I recommend contacting the creators of items that you bought and lost, you may be pleasantly suprised when they offer to replace them.

I'm having the same problem as well :( Seems like a rare thing, because this is the only topic I see about it. Everything that wasn't in a folder I or someone else created was deleted. Couple hundred pictures/textures, and thousands $ worth of clothes and such. Luckily, my object folder lives :)

Tren have you mailed the help desk and raised a bug ?

Maybe with 2 people linden will realize that maybe it is not isolated.

No reply from linden from this end yet, and no sign of my inventory :-(

Some good news

Well blow me down with a feather..

Just as I had given up on my inventory ever coming back.

I was just looking for a new object when I noticed that my object folder had suddenly grown 10 fold - what.........
Same with textures.

Blow me down with a feather they are back ( textures, objects and notecards)

Yippeeeeee

Only thing missing now are the animations - oh well I suppose I can live without those.

(Hate to cast a cloud on a sunny day - but I wish somebody would keep me informed as to what and where is going on tho' )

heh, awesomeness. All my folders came back as well, except for my clothes folder. So maybe that little surprise is waiting for me in the future. :p Good to hear you got your stuff back.
