I'm the manager of rather productive little marketing dept. I just spent the last 10 minutes listening to the CEO pep talk the customer service dept. for all their hard work. Sour grapes? Maybe so. But the bigger question is: what do we need to do to get their attention?? Squeaky wheel gets the oil, and I can do that to a point. But apparently any amount of subtlety is counter productive. WORK SUCKS. Time to marry rich and retire.

Departments that are NOT doing thier job need a fluff, departments that are doing good need to be left alone. Take it as a compliment, Ingrid!

Bleh... this is unrelated, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm getting paid significantly less than someone with the same job (both started same day)...but the real catch is: I have technically 1.5 years of industry experience and they have none. Only other difference is their 3.6 GPA vs my 3.2 GPA (bleh, whatever, like it means anything)...although really the reason is that I didn't push for what I should have gotten. Lesson: be greedy. (I guess) Eh...I guess that doesn't help much. Of course, another person is getting paid the same as me (who was hired at least 6 months ago), so I guess I'm in good company. lol Work fairness? ha ha ha...

But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

My company was just bought by another, vastly larger corporation. Tomorrow we have a mandatory meeting to learn how to use the timesheet software on the computers they haven't given us yet.

My guess is that your rank-and-file customer service reps (a) spend a good part of every day dealing with galloping buttheads, and (b) make somewhat less than the folks in your dept.
I know it's easy to misplace that perspective when you've worked your own team like sled-dogs, only to sit with them in obscurity at one of these public CEO riffs.
