Have you ever been frightened in SL?

Aimee's thread about the supernatural got me wondering....?
Since some find the metaverse very real, I'm wondering if any of you have ever been frightened (or startled, or creeped out) by something in SL? Perhaps a scary avitar or eerie place? Something scripted to scare you (like the Spookhouse)? If so, what was it?

My tier date scares the bejebus out of me, every single month.

Yes. We were exploring this church at like 2 or 3AM and I was drunk and this demon comes from no where. I screamed in RL. I'm a punk like that.

I've been startled quite a few times. If I'm working on something and not paying attention, then zoom out and there's someone's head right there... I know one time I zoomed around while building something and ended up with my view half-inside Siggy's head (where you see the eyes, teeth, tongue.. etc) and it made me jump. I didn't even realize anyone else was there.

That one halloween ride, I forget the name, scared the crap out of me. I was home alone in my living room with the lights off and it was just creepy.

My friend Toxius Stephanopolis has 2 hobbies:

1. Making the most bizarre, eerie AVs in SL
2. Sneaking up on me.

I would be hanging out all by myself, zoomed in on some shoes I was making, having a good time in my own little world. Then as soon as I looked up *SCREAM* I get a face full of tox monster. Scared the wits out of me every time.

I have been startled many times but only once havve I ever been truly scared. I was a newbie though and unaware of the fact that I was actually in no danger.

Some real prize "citizen" had a skybox "trap" house set up. When you went inside there was no way to get out and the whole thing was filled with dungeon equipment covered wth blood. In the middle of the floor was a big spike for impaling people on with assoicated pool of blood. The more I tried to get out, and couldn't, the more anxious I got.

I ended up getting so scared I called my only friend at the time to tp me out. I was totally unaware of the "tp home" option!

I dont feel so bad because this sicko obviously was into scaring people anyway and it worked on me. Poor noob!

There has been two places I have been to that have creeped me out totally. One was a house that was a paranoid schizophrenia "project" showing how people that are schizophrenic view things and what they hear. The whole thing was rather creepy but the "music" was someone whispering, kill yourself, kill yourself now. O.O

Another is the Insane Asylum, lots of little cells with cots and blood on the walls. Severe headbanging/thrash metal music playing. Just kinda gave me the willies.

When I owned Krittannia, I had more than one person IM - or just shout across the sim - that they were in Hell and couldn't find their way out and were scared. *snicker*

I still have the badge for that place in my inventory, and yes... It was creepy.

I suffered vertigo early one morning / late one night. It was about 7am or later, and I hadn't gone to bed at all, even though everyone kept repeating my need too. I had a long night, nothing went right and so I started on a project, and couldn't sleep until it was done. Well, a friend came to help because by this time I couldn't even form a proper sentence... let alone unravel the secrets of prim manipulation..lol. Having my camera focused on one of the objects we were working on, I opened a notecard looking for something. At almost the same moment my friend moved the object I was focused on. The VR room around me shifted and my eyesight caught it. I actually fell forwards against the desk in real life, and very nearly vomited. After a few seconds to regain myself I laughingly anounced this insane event to those in SL around me who thought it was hillarious....and, told me to go to bed. =)

The old Horror Sim scared me so bad that I wet myself the first time I went there!

I am also scared of heights and flying doesn't scare me but one day I tried to make a platform on a very tall pole and when I sat on the platform I had a genuine panic attack!

The only things that scare me in SL are anatomically-correct avatars.

SL doesn't seem immersive enough to provide me with a "real" scare. But I appreciate a good horror-themed avatar or build. We need more of those...

Back in Umber, for quite some time, Mistress had a kite that would just fly around on the *wind* I guess you could say. It used to randomly appear behind me or nearby, close enough to flash in the side view of my camera when I was working and it would startle me every freaking time. I cursed that kite, oh yes, I cursed it's evil soul to hell. After that things got worse, though some will tell you I've lost my mind, I know what I saw! Late one night I was working on an outfit and while in photoshop I kept hearing this strange noise in SL. I switched windows and looked around but saw nothing, so I went back to photoshop. About ten minutes later I heard it again, switched windows, again nothing.

I finished the top I was working on and switched to SL for uploading. While I was in appearance mode I heard the noise and suddenly there was that DAMNED KITE flittering about behind me. I exited out of appearance mode, determined to kill the kite, but it had VANISHED! When I left Umber, I left feeling sure the kite was gone for good and I'm happy to say it hasn't shown itself in Midnight City. Sometimes late at night though, while I'm working, I can almost swear I see a flash of red in my side view...but no..it couldn't be...

Ayuh. Thaht kite taint natural. Some says it dragged a little boy out to sea during a gail. Aint never seen the boy since... but they say the kite wanders the earth... lookn fer that lil boy. Others say the soul of of OldMan Omega is in that there kite. Damned fool wuz flying his kite when tornaters were about. The string wrapped around his neck. They says the kite carried his body over the town for all to see for a full tree hours. Still others say thet Green Fate scriptid that there kite to simulate semi random motions within a defined area.

In SL no. In WoW, yes. Nothing like walking over a hill at 3am in the morning, peaceful, birds singing, and suddenly...RAWR!

Nothing is scarier than the Lindens out in force on a Friday night drinking! TRUST ME.

Residents drinking with Lindens? Cats lying with dogs?!? What does it all mean???

I was scared I wouldn't make it to Neverland before it closed down...
