Hi all!

Some of you may have seen I-Booths springing up around the world (Perry, Slate, Tan, Aqua, and Federal). DDIS has launched the new system on Saturday... somwhat of a quiet launch, but rapidly getting positive support from the community. Basically, you walk up to a booth... select what type of information you are seeking (Businesses, Events, Real Estate, etc.).. and then select from a submenu on the "browser" portion of the station (ie, Businesses -> Apparel). It then hands out a notecard full of information relevant to the topic you have of interest. So if you are looking for clothing shops, you would click on Businesses, then apparel.. in the notecard you would find all the listings for clothing shops, a brief description of the shops, and landmarks for each one. Simple as that!

So this is just the official "We Have Launched it!" post. Note: Listing any businesses is completely free to the community, so if you have a business and want to list. You can drop me a notecard with a landmark.. or do the same at any one of the stations' mailboxes. We charge very little for an ad display if you would like one put on the screen. We are trying to keep this pretty much free for the community, and donation boxes are set out if you'd like to donate!

Thanks, and enjoy!

I-booths

Maybe these booths will finally be the demise of all those hideous billboards. They certainly are much more efficient, and cheaper than advertising on those monstrosities. The I-booths are actually fun to use. Why dont you make some for the real world.

Thanks, guys! We are happy that they are "accepted".. allthough, billboards was one of the ways we came up with the idea a while back. I like the idea of information, or a way to get info (which the billboards do)... but we wanted to add a more "interactive" feel to it, and have some exciting ideas for future versions.

Would it be of any help to the cause if I offered to shoulder the costs associated with rezzing an Ibooth and land to put one on?

Just a thought...

I like these -- they're fun to play with, and very impressive.

Sure, Chris! If you don't mind me rezzing one on your land, I would be happy to install one there. The actual costs of the booths aren't bad (36 prims)... but the land starts to add up after 5 or six of them. I'll contact you IG

Well, I think it was part of the idea to give businesses more "LOW PROFILE" options to promote and introduce their businesses and services in areas where billboards are not, perhaps, the most popular choice of media.Given the possibilities of customization, there is no reason the booths cannot be placed just about anywhere without ruining themes and vistas.

Billboards are totally pedestrian compared to these. Bravo!

I think you should add a category for Sightseeing. That'll really tie things together!

I've been working on a sightseeing system, a way to browse the world from one place and pick things to go to, kind of like a tourism office. I wouldn't have brought it up before completion but there seems to be some paranoia about intellectual theft around, and I'm not well known. I haven't used your IIS, Water, but it sounds like a great idea and I hope it works out (doesn't every world need a Yahoo?). And, obviously, I think sightseeing would be a good addition too :)

I've noticed the I-Booth in Slate and I think it's a very cool idea. If you want to release the land and rez the booth in my park instead I'm happy to allow that -- I'm not on top of the hill, rather sort of below it, but i am right behind the amiptheater and it gets a good deal of traffic from what I can tell. Just let me know!

I'm sure one of the booths will look fine in your park. This system is great, because while there may be some overlap of function with the as yet untried Telehubs, the I-Booths will already be there providing discrete information, directions and tasteful promotion for the discriminating SL business owner.

Water, can you add a card to the I-booths that has LM's for all the I-bboths please?
