Second Life Forums

Posting Rules

The Second Life Forums have become a great place to discuss events, provide suggestions, report possible bugs and debate various aspects of Second Life. As we move forward, it's important to remember that a set of Community Standards applies to these forums, just as they do the in-world experience.

When a member of the community chooses to ignore this responsibility, their posts and even their ability to post to these forums will be subject to removal. Under certain circumstances, Linden Lab may also ban the account from Second Life as well. Fortunately, these incidents are not the norm and we look forward to the forums remaining a key part of the SL experience.

The Forum posting guidelines are listed below. The guidelines contain a list of activities which may result in the "locking" of a forum thread (un-able to post further messages to that message thread), removal of a post, the removal of the entire discussion thread, banning from the forum threads, and/or the banning from Second Life. Please refer to these guidelines if you are unsure if the post is appropriate.

To report a post that is in violation of these standards, select the "report this post to a moderator" link contained at the bottom of each forum post.

Have Fun,

Linden Lab

Posting Guidelines:

Private Forum
The Second Life forums are privately maintained and run by Linden Lab. As such, Linden Lab will use their best judgment when determining if posts violate the Forum Guidelines and will take appropriate action when necessary in determining if further actions (i.e. account suspension, banning)need to be taken.

Posts that Linden Lab will immediately remove.
Posts which are abusive, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, offensively sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY applicable law, posts containing copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, posts containing Spam, real-world commercial advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are expressly forbidden. These posts will be removed upon discovery, and depending upon severity, may result in immediate banning from Second Life.

Flaming, Spamming, Trolling
Flaming (posting a message that is intended to incite anger or directly attack a person or persons, Spamming (multiple posts of the same topic or discussion), and Trolling (a post that is written with the express intent of inciting an off-topic discussion, or a post with an intentionally contrary opinion written with the intent of getting argumentative opinions) are not allowed. Linden Lab will use the broadest interpretation of these words when determining if the post falls under these definitions. In short, if you think that your post might be over-reactive, or that it might fall into one of these definitions, it probably is.

No-Reposting
If Linden Lab removes your post, do not repost it elsewhere. Furthermore, do not post a "why did my post get removed" post. Send any further discussion regarding post removals to support@lindenlab.com.

Stay on Topic
The Second Life forums are for the discussion of Second Life. The forums are split into separate topics. Do not post discussions into forums that are clearly designed for other discussions. For Example: a discussion on global warming is appropriate in the General Discussion -Off Topic Forum. It is very inappropriate in the "Scripts and Scripting" forum. Please note: The "General Discussion - Off Topic" forum is provided to discuss any topic with other members of the Second Life community. Linden Lab will remove posts, suspend accounts, and ban users upon discovery of violations of any of the forum posting guidelines. Stay respectful, be polite, agree to disagree, but do not abuse the forum.

Additions
Linden Lab will make additions to the forums standards as necessary. It is incumbent upon the users of the forums to read any updates made by Linden Lab and be aware of the forum rules before posting messages.
