Solitaire Guillaume's post about creating an object around someone brings to mind several issues I've been thinking of and wondering how they would be handled.

With any online community, player interaction can be either positive and negative. With the evidence of what's happened in other online communities, how do the administrators/GM's plan to handle inter-player disputes? Letting people be creative in their building, opens the door to behavior that isn't against the "rules", but is none-the-less, unwanted by the community.

From what I've seen so far, there doesn't appear to be anyone that doesn't want to contribute positively, but I can bet that at some time, there will be someone who steps over some imaginary line. What I would like to know, is what guidelines will be used for player arbitration. While I know this is a beta, it's an issue that is probably more important than any technical feature.

Good point, Ryden,

Yes, community standards are a big issue, and we're working on them.

It's a balance between giving everyone the freedom to be creative, yet protecting everyone else's rights and sensibilities.

As a company, we' have legal concerns that we'll have to deal with, and as creative people, we want to allow -- and take advantage of -- as much freedom as possible.

We will not tolerate abuse, predjudice, racial slurs or harassment of any type. Things that appropriate in the Outlands may not be appropriate in "safe" areas.

As soon as we can, we'll post an initial Community Standards document on our Website for Second Life residents to review.

In the mean time, try to play nice.

Thanks
