I noticed the same thing. When I was on early today my account showed that my tax was just over $1100 more than my stipend. When I logged on later tonight, my account shows my tax is almost $7000 more than my stipend!!

I was sitting at $12047 Linden dollars and went down to $9800 something. What gives? This tax thing is a really dumb idea. If it has flaws then here's a good idea, forget about it all together. Taxes are not fun, in a game they are even more not fun.

Agreed.
The perfect "second life" in my view would be tax free. Down with taxes! |

I don't think the taxes are a BAD idea. They keep the sims from being overcrowded by multitudes of objects and such, thus reducing the dreaded lag factor... The tax system just needs to function in such a way that people aren't broke half the time is all.

Neo & Spleef --
Ok, if there is no tax, how do you propose LL distributes server resources? We have several residents who have enough cash to create the (current) *maximum number of objects which can be in a sim at one time*. If it weren't for the tax there would be nothing stopping them from doing so. I believe there are enough wealthy residents right now that each one could pick just one sim, fill it to the brim, and then sit there on their piles of prims. Then where would *you* be (assuming you're not one of the ones with enough cash to rez several thousand objects)? Taxes bite, yes. No one disputes this. They are, however, a necessary evil. This isn't what this thread is about (at least not what it started out as about <g> ![]() #! |

Um...Simple solution to all this. Sales Tax on Prims. If you delete them after say 2 days then you are not refunded the sales tax. Will teach people to build arbitrarly and leave junk laying around. The sales tax would also help in redistributing cash for people deleting prims that went public so it would be a way to pay for those recycling refunds. Or for land instead of a weekly Tax on Land create a Monthly Tax or a bi annual tax on the land bought. Had it not been for my land tax I would have been able to of had some more money when it came tax day. Right now I got 10 linden after paying taxes. Just enough to transport out of the Dungeon to the roof of my Castle. Taxes are getting too Opressive. It kind of detracts from game play. I know we want to limit the building of enormous Huge Gigantic Objects <<like my Castle>> but at the same time We need the Funds to Try to atleast decorate those huge objects appropriately.

But if we want to limit the building of huge structures, why should people be guaranteed the money to outfit them? |

The ideal of the system is that the people that benefit the world the most get a larger share of the available resources. You need more money to finish / furnish your castle? Go help new people out or host events (both of which generate higher ratings = higher bonus = more money to build), or build on a project that other people like enough to vote for, or create something that people like enough to buy.
Basically you need to in some way convince other people that you are adding enough to the world that you deserve more resources. |

People, these are not taxes, they are Second Life Resource World Balancing Enhancers.
But more to the point, I didn't notice any explanation as to why there was a radical change in taxes for the few people that complained about them assuming they were not caused by the addition of huge projects in a single Second Life Resource World Balancing Enhancer period. Lets not confuse the need to correct a potential bug with a clearly cultural debate. -Jesse |

Fairly sure it was a bug that was a result of moving one of the data computers, it is supposed to be fixed and those effected should have been reimberssed some linden funding. I believe.
