It's down for me as well. I really hope that it comes back up soon! I've got a lot of things marked as favorites that I'd want to buy, once I have the Lindens, which aren't found on other sites offering similar services.

Yeah, it's also proving the case why residents can not be expected to handle mission critical APPs.

This would never have happened if it was run by a non-resident

SL doesn't have a lot of unplanned outages.
Sluggish responses, yes, but outright unplanned downtime? no. |

Mission critical? I'd hardly call any web-shopping apps "mission critical". Fun? Yes. Convenient? Sure! But not mission-critical.
![]() It appears Apotheus hosts SLex from home and his ISP may be down: SLExchange.com=68.80.120.119 http://www.samspade.org/t/lookat?a=68.80.120.119 It looks as if the server is coming across a Comcast Cable Modem. I know Comcast has been having outages in the PA area, as Apotheus and I live close to one another. Its a real pain in the tush. Regards, -Flip _____________________

Uptime is important. Real websites are hosted at real ISPs with redundency and multiple backbones and all that jazz, not at a house via a cable modem, specifically because uptime is pretty damn important. I certainly hope that a website like slexchange is NOT run through a cable modem. - J |

I just posted this question myself under Land and Economy. I haven't been able to access SLExchange all day.
It's a good thing I'm not trying to host something like that at MY house, since my Charter Cable goes out numerous times every day. coco _____________________

Might've been a DNS glitch. As for uptime, I used to work at CDnow... while uptime was important, the world wouldn't end if we had downtime. Its not open-heart surgery! In the case of SL web shopping sites (I run one of them) we're talking tens of dollars (or less) here, not thousands. If Amazon goes down for even 5 minutes, that's tens of thousands of dollars lost; if SLex, SLBoutique, or SecondServer go down for 5 hours... we're not even talking hundreds. ![]() Regards, -Flip _____________________

I'm sorry if my reaction to finding you going through my drawers again was excessive. Using a taser was possibly a bit ove r the top. I just found one too many of my panties stretched out from your big butt and snapped! _____________________
