I've been trying to make some objects in game and I'm not having much success. I've figured out most of the basics but when I try to build more complex items I quickly get lost. Would anyone be able to give me a few pointers on how to build things. thanks.

Help is on the way
02-07-2003 08:24
Thanks for post your question - probably shared by others.

Three thoughts:

1. Come to the Intro to Building class - usually at 5 pm each day but check the calendar - in the south part of Minna.

2. Grab a Liaison - either Char, Ben, Jenn,or Dan Linden would be really happy to give you some pointers. You can find one of them at the new start point in the north part of Ritch.

3. Lot's of the veterans are very nice and helpful. Fly around and introduce yourself and ask if there is anyone they know that would be willing to give you a lesson. Chances are they will do it.

(In terms of navigation to find the class or the start point, select the Map of the World under the Help button at the top of the screen. The names of each of the regions are displayed.)

Yeah, I keep missing the building class. I don't home from work to a bit later.
I'll ask around next time I'm in game.
Some Basic questions that I can think of off the top of my head.

1. How do I link objects together? I never seem to have the option.

2. Are the tools in the create and edit windows all there is? Are there any more ways to change the shape of the primitives?
Well that all I can think of right now. Have to get back to work.
thanks.

1. How do I link objects together? I never seem to have the option.

Select the first one by right-click Edit. Select the 2nd one by holding down Shift and clicking on it. (Select 3rd, 4th, 5th, Xth, etc. the same way). The last one you select will be the Parent object. Then hit ctrl-L to link them together.

(1)Are the tools in the create and edit windows all there is? (2) Are there any more ways to change the shape of the primitives?

1. As far as I know, yes.
2. As far as I know, no.

Maxen - I assume that you have found the tabs that allow you to manipulate primitives (ie hollow top size top shear etc)

If you have free time some time look for me I'm happy to help.
Lately I've been on after 10pm EST - 7PM PST.

I can make ya build diff stuff er somethin =P

Thanks for the offer.
Had the bascis shown to me the other night. Now it's just a matter of playing around with things and seeing what I come up with.
The first thing I've noticed is that I'm thinking in too grand of a scale. I need to start with some more basic ideas first.

Somebody should start up a Tips page where they could put down a bunch of simple basic steps when working with primitvies. It woudl come in handy for people who are just starting.

I'm working on a Building tips area in game. It will be a Do-it-yourself Building Tutorial, because some people learn better when they go at their own pace. It's just NW of Minna (75,75). There is only one sign there currently, but should be useable by Monday.

Building
02-11-2003 09:01
I attended the building demo conducted by Flyk, Monday night Feb 10th. She did a great job and I was busy copying her instructions and tips but it sure would be helpful to have a more thorough, written guideline on how to build things. Also, how to aquire land. I'm new and so far the game is very impressive and fun.
Is the building tips area open and running yet?

Not 100%, but I believe it is a work in progress.

Anyone who wants I have a note card with a basic build tut. Tho i suspect when the do-it-yerself is complete it will be much nicer.

Dan if you need a hand w/ anything... :D

A basic building tutorial is up just NW of Minna (75,75). One station is near the top of the hill and another is over the bridge. I left a suggestion box on the ground there. To use it, click the button on the top then chat a suggestion. I'll work on it more this weekend and will try to incorporate any of you suggestions.
