Maybe someone at Linden Lab was a kindergarten teacher but the sickeningly twee garbage about gnomes and hippos has to go. Maybe when I was watching Romper Room it would have been amusing but when SL goes down for hours I want more of an explanation than, "The pesky server gnomes stole the hippos' underpants and hid them under the dumdum tree down in dingly dell! Our crack team of homeland security hippos are busy sitting on the gnomes and wiggling their oh-so-comically fat butts! Teehee!"

It's not like we're playing cutting edge internet games involving 3D modelling and scripting because we're not tech savvy. We understand the concept of colocated server farms losing their connection to the backbone because someone was digging a pool in their backyard. Please stop patronizing us. Not to mention we're all at least supposed to be over 18. It was only cute the first 0.0002 times.

Well, thanks a lot Julian. You have managed to do what no one else in SL has ever done before. Your ridicule of these two traditional enemies has united them into a force that spells DOOM for all of us. RUN! FLEE! The Hippognomes are upon us! Aiee!

The reason they mention the hippos and gnomes is because of the longstanding hippo thread and the fact that hippos are the favorite animal of SL'ers. it has a long tradition in SL and is supported by many members..

They are not patronizing you, they are having fun with us and our jokes.

I for one prefer this over some boring technical statement and I think most members do.

Besides, LL tells us a HELL of alot more than most dev companies tell their customer base.

BTW

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

I don't think the majority of SLers are interested in h****s. It's an old beta thing.

I think the very fact that LL does something to fix downtime instantly is worthy of a round of applause. What's better is that they have sense of humor about it.

It's a joke, lighten up. I thought it was really funny :D

Exactly, I love the Linden sense of humor, it helps to develop a bond between the lindens and the players. I've never found another game where the bond is so strong, that is because they don't just act like standoffish, technical, staff. They have fun with us, hang out when they have the time.

75% of which consists of "When will this end?" or words to that effect.

You have a strange definition of "fact".

Hmm...wombats... Wombats...

Ok, Lindens, if you want to tell us wombats chewed through the network cables I can live with that.
