From THIS thread From: Philip Linden SL is a platform that relies for it's success (at least in part) on helping people make money. So if we compete with users in doing that, the platform goes away. Understanding that this is LL's definition of a platform explains their overall perspective and their confusion when we use the term to describe technological development. We're always talking about features they can develop to grant us the ability to use the software to make money while they're talking about us using the software to make money with the features they've already developed. The idea of resident programming features and clients through an API (an actual platform) is a wholly foriegn concept. So is the idea of resident coloed servers and grids. That's not The Grid All Hail The Central Grid so it's not The Economy so it's not The Platform. Thank you Philip for dropping all that graduate marketing verbosity and speaking plainly. From: Philip Linden We need to add features to the SL API to better allow web catalog owners to transfer things to other users and ask for payments. Now this totally confuses me. What API? Has LL also redefined the term API beyond recognition? Well why not. It's a proven tactic that's worked for Bill Gates time and again. Good Luck with it!

I believe he is, in part, refering to the fact that llGiveMoney does not return an error code and that you cannot give money without giving access to your full account.
Both of these problems hurt the buyer and the seller, by making the system insecure.
I suspect the complexities involved must be stunning in order to do this properly for micro payments.

From: Khamon Has LL also redefined the term API beyond recognition? From: Iron I believe he is, in part, refering to the fact that llGiveMoney does not return an error code and that you cannot give money without giving access to your full account. So the answer is Why Yes, They Have!

SL doesn't technicaly *have* an API yet, unless you count LSL script calls to the system.
Beyond that, Khamon's original post doesn't make much sense to me, ;p
