RED STICK -- New Orleans has long been known as a vampire haven. What hasn’t been reported, until now, is the devastation to the vampire community because of the hurricane. “It was assumed by many that most of the vampires had simply turned themselves into bats and flew away when the evacuation orders went out” an unnamed spokesman said, “but the truth is that the time they had to evacuate was severely limited because they couldn’t leave until after sundown.” He went on to say that may refused to leave their coffins behind and decided to wait the storm out. “We’re trying to get as many survivors out as possible, but rescue efforts have been hindered because many vampires fear crossing water.” One vampire, interviewed while recovering at a Red Cross blood donation center, said, “I’ve been in New Orleans for a couple hundred years and I’ve seen some big storms come and go, but this is by far the worst.” It is uncertain at this time how many of New Orleans’ vampires still remain undead. For those who did manage to escape, things can still be bleak. “I lost everything,” one elderly vampire was quoted as saying, “I really need dirt from my original grave in order to get a good night's sleep and now that last of that is washed away. I would go back to Romania to get more, but the burial ground was excavated to build a tractor factory in the 1960s.” So far there has only been one reported fatality; a vampire who was struck in the chest by a piece of wood blowing at high velocity during the storm. In general most vampires have been stoic about the entire event, summed up by the comment of one young vampire, “Sucks to be me.”

Since the vampires and zombies are already dead there are, sadly, no survivors.
