When does Governor Linden acquire land?

I have a question that is not meant to stir any controversy, but just a curiosity on my part.

I own some land in SL. All my neighbors are great. I don't feud with anyone. (sorry to disappoint)

Anyway, there was a small 512ish parcel of land for sale next to me. I always considered buying it but never did. To be honest, it was an odd piece of land and I just figured it might go down in price if I waited. I would have just used it for prims.

Anyway, I notice the other day that the land is now owned by Governor Linden. The person who owned the land the last time I saw it is still in the game. It actually still has their sale message on the land.

Again, just out of curiosity, how does land like that come to be owned by Governor Linden? Does LL occassionally purchase land? If it was released would it go to the Governor?

I really don't care about the plot and am perfectly happy the way it is now. I just stare at it and wonder so thought I would ask.

I'm not sure which parcel you are asking about, but there are several cases where Gov. Linden will 'reclaim' land from a Resident:

- When someone tiers down from Premium to Basic Account or if they do not pay for their teir
- Or if the land is not claimed within 7 days when you have first purchased it at auction
- If you do not tier up within 24 hours when you first purchase a parcel
