Anyone ever cut your tongue before? I did last night on a broken chicken bone, and I've gotta say this is one of the most painful experiences I think I've ever had. It's really quite remarkable. I never would have thought such a small injury could feel so catastrophic. I had to cancel my whole work day because I'm talking with a damned lisp, and it's sooooo painful to speak. And it's only been getting worse as the day goes on.

Anyone else ever do this? It's quite an experience.

I know people with tongue piercings usually say the first couple days are pretty miserable, but then it's over with. Anyone have any theories if having your tongue ripped open by a jagged piece of bone is a comparable experience to having it pierced by a nice clean needle?

Anyone have any advice to aleviate the pain? Help me out here.

At the very least, comiserate with me. Share your tongue mutilation stories.

I've gotten paper cuts on my tongue from licking envelopes... yep, pretty painful alright. You might try licorice root capsules, if you have a health food store nearby... I've found them to be pretty effective in helping heal that sort of thing.

Thanks for the reply. Hmm, licorice, interesting. I never would have thought of that. I'm in no mood to go searching for a health food store today, but I do have an ample supply of licorice tea in the house. I'll make some. If nothing else, it's mighty tasty. It defintely has soothing and calming qualities to it, among a host of health benefits, so I can see how it might help. Thanks for the advice.

Anyone else?

OMG! That's got to be one of the worst things I've ever heard. Searing pain and the disgust of having had a bug in your mouth all at once. I think you win the prize so far.

Hey now.

Nothing necessarily disgusting about having a bug in one's mouth! I should make you a batch of tasty mealworm & oatmeal cookies, Chosen, and you'd feel differently, I reckon, about such a statement. Mmmmmm ..... and chocolate-covered crickets, too ...

(Of course, granted, a LIVE and UNEXPECTED bug in one's mouth, well, who would be other than suddenly grossed/freaked out?)

And, yeah, even mealworm cookies are best munched with other than a freshly wounded tongue. That shit sounds painful, Chosen! :( I hope the licorice works. :)

*nods in extreme agreement*

And what about when it's one of those thicker manila envelopes? One whose flap *should* be too thick to slice the tongue's slick meat, yet somehow the combination of speed and angle and carelessness conspires toward a laceration that --- *shudder*

Let us speak no more of these matters.
