Hi all, This past week a few people voiced displeasure over some constraints I put on the avatar of the week contest.
The initial contest was pretty much a free-for-all with two categories: attachments vs. non-atttached.
It was great, but I felt it would be easier to hold if I limited the number of entrants. So I tried limiting it to the first 5 arrivals who wanted to compete.
So my question is this: which method is more enjoyable in your opinion? Having unlimited entrants and just deal or set some limits and have it be a smaller event?
Also - I'm thinking winners of the previous week should be exempt for some period of time so as not to repeatedly take the title.
Any input you could give would be great! Thanks peeps, jenn

If you're limiting it to only 5 per week, maybe you should limit it to one entery per month per person or something like that. Also it would be nice if maybe once a month the previous 4 winners would have a contest between them

I dont think this should be via a contest in world, but rather an email contest, similar to the photo contest. Have people take a photo of their avatar and email it to a linden email address, along with a description of the avatar. Randomly select 15 of these entries(no repeats!) and have the 15 chocies on the site. People vote on www.secondlife.com, and then someone wins. If you are one of the lucky 15, you cant get picked until the contest after next.

James, nice idea that would improve anonymity and allow for more of the community to have a vote.
Problem is that being a web-only event would take the particiaption aspect out of it. I imagine the purpose for many of the people that attend these functions (myself included) is to 'be there'. Perhaps though there should be like an AV of the month contest that takes winners and runner ups for the weeks of that month. Just a thought...
And to respond to Jennifer I think the 5 limit is too restricting. The problem as I, and others I have talked with, see it is that you limit it to becoming a punctuality contest instead of an AV contest.
While I missed out on the anyone/everyone enter AV contests I imagine it was rather chaotic. Perhaps encorporating others suggestions like the can only participate once per month will help. Also since this is a regular event maybe a pre-registration process should be setup to help organize who is entering. Say have the people who want to enter register for the contest some time prior (like a couple days or so) and have them choose which category they are entering (props or no props right noe correct?). That way no unexpected entries and you can still do away with a bit of the confusion instead of just having people show up. Also it's adds a bit more comittment to it on the side of the participants toward making sure they show up.
Also another thing that may want to be discussed is PG vs. Mature contests. Many of the friends I have met online have great costumes but they may be too much for a PG run show.
Cheers,
- Gaudeon

The reason that I wanted the contest to be online is simply because its not a very fair contest if only the first 5 get to compete. My idea allows EVERYONE a chance to compete.
I understand that my idea doesnt allow for an in world thing..maybe you would have an in world thing of the 5 finalists from the website vote?

First of all, my hat's always off to Jenn, who runs the best organized and most fun events. Awesome job, Jenn, and thank you for keeping us so well entertained.
Here are my thoughts/suggestions: I would hate to see a talented person excluded from these contests. If you're talented enough to win a contest week after week, you deserve it. Rather, exclude the same av/outfit more than once. Once an av/outfit wins a contest, it should be 'retired' from further competition. That same person however should be able to enter the next contest with a different av.
These competitions seem to be the most popular ones right now. I think then that they should be more frequent. And maybe broken down into categories. One night could be winged creatures, another night historical figures, another night elaborate head attachments, and so on. Residents should be able to put in requests for categories so if they have an av that doesn't fit existing contests, they can request it. And I do think there should be the occasional 'anything goes' contests.
I also like the idea someone presented about winners competing against each other - a kind of 'champion of champions' contest where all 1st place winners over a period of time go head to head.
Hope some of this is helpful.

I agree with Candie's idea about once an AV/outfit combo has won, it is retired from competition. However, if in the event all 1st place winners do compete for a "champion of champions", any outfit combo should be allowed Don't fear the Reaper ! Deanah Feaver

Okay, I like the whole idea of having an avatar of the week. I do think that limiting it to 5 is not a great way to really give some deserving avs a chance. I thought maybe if there was someway for people to nominate an av, including themselves, then you could take the top 5 nominated and then have them compete. Anything kind of similar to that I think would be cool. That way your involving everyone without the confusion of everyone showing up at once for the contest. It is also a fair way to do it because its simply by votes. I guess it would sort of be like how we vote for properties, people could only nominate once. Anyways, haha its just a rough idea because I wouldn't know how to go about it. By the way I'm pretty new so if you haven't met me yet I hope we meet soon This is me, not in my demon form muahahahha..

Nice Tat Torrid. =p
Well you all have some very good suggestions. I'm gonna see what I can work out by improving the contest based on what ya've told me.
If anyone thinks of anything else, please put it out there.
Thanks a bunch, jenn
