The Burning Life should be larger. Six sims are not enough considering the population of SL and the number of people who wanted to participate. It can't be argued that selective participation allows the cream to rise because pariticipation is by lottery; if the cream rises it is by accident. Please give more people the chance to participate. Thank you.

Yeah, I'm not sure I see any reason why Burning Life couldn't have afforded a few more sims -- LL could have spared some for such a temporary and awesome event, I'm sure. Although I guess it inspires a feeling of appreciation in the lucky winners that is helpful to creativity.

I haven't taken a close enough look, so this is preemptive, but on one hand, while I enjoy an absolute clutter of creative chaos, I remember how dense and SLOW it was at the winter carnival. One plot even had a prim multiplier of something like 28x for whatever reason, filled with tori (prims not Amoses) good lord.
So... I wonder if Burning Life could have been spaced out onto more sims. Again, I enjoy the cluster effect. Lag's just unfortunate. This is in addition to our growing population. One thing that frustrates me that I noticed very prominently before I left is that SL has so many sims with an emphasis towards "realistic" neighborhoods, and if you set up a giant floating whale with balloons attached to its head, there's a tendency to tag it as an act of "greefing" instead of creative spirit. Whereas, if Burning Life were a residential neighborhood 24/7/12/365, wacky art could thrive. Wish there was more of that in SL, I bet I'll feel the same way after the next few days— HEY DIZZY... bet you're makin' something crazy, huh? _____________________

I'm disappointed I didn't get in this time, but I was in the previous ones. On the other paw, some of the folks I had builds next to are participating. I can tell you that yes, they rock.

last year burning life was 5 sims.
and this year it was 6. considering the population growth... that's not much of an increase. |

Anyone did a count of how many people were accepted for BL and how many applied? I'm curious, because that would be fairly accurate (apart from the part of making sure enough word got out—I'm sure budding artists not reading the SL Forums sadly missed out).

What is sad is that if you missed it this time you may miss it next time, and the next time, and the next time, because it is by random lottery. Linden can do better than only 40% of those who WANT to participate, especially since it only needs servers for a few weeks, is non-profit, and lets people work their butts off to make SL look good.

I've missed it everytime. Ah well, maybe next time! ![]() *Crosses fingers* Hope they don't get stuck from keeping them crossed for a year! I may need a personal visit from Mavis Beacom if so! ![]() _____________________

Y'all get together, rent a few sims for a month and host your own competition.

There is another solution.
![]() In the spirit of collaboration, fellowship, and downright craziness, Rhiannon Chatnoir has kindly allowed many builders to participate in the building project on her BL plot. I am certain that there are many installations of this type going on, and I applaud those who have chosen this route. As a burner wanna-be (I *will* make it to the playa next year), this is a beautiful approximation of the Burning Man experience (sans heat, grey water, and art cars). ![]() _____________________
