7/06/05 Saved By The Hell
Can't get enough Christ in your video games? Never fear, religious weirdo - the Apocalypse is coming to a PC near you!
Hot on the heels of the questionably fun but unquestionably kid-friendly Bible Game comes a much seedier side of the savior, the never-awaited video game version of the best-selling Left Behind series. (There's already been a movie, you know, starring none other than "the master" Kirk Cameron. Talk about your growing pains.)
Never heard of Left Behind? Then you, my friend, can go to hell. Or rather, stay right here on Earth as the Jesus fanboys ascend to salvation, leaving nonbelievers to fend for themselves in a wasteland of horrible cliches perpetuated by an ongoing battle between the Tribulation Force (the Lord's posse) and the Global Community Peacekeepers (the evil, sexy heathens).
But this isn't about the doomsaying books, it's about the doomed-to-drive-me-insane video game. The premise? A real-time strategy game in which two forces fight for land while converting neutral, secular units to their side in the name of either Jesus or Satan. Wonder what the unit balance will be like.
The culprits? Left Behind Games, founded in 2001. The mission?
"The mission of Left Behind Games is to become the world's leading independent developer and publisher of quality interactive entertainment products that perpetuate family values and appeal to mainstream, Christian and gamer audiences, while remaining committed to increasing shareholder value and pursuing the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in all business affairs."
Not bad, Left Behind Games, although you left out "be perfect at all things at all times forever and ever until Christ Jesus comes and whisks us away to Oz."
Do you smell something burning, or is that just me?
