We at the SL History Wiki have transcribed the list of 1500+ people who appear on the "Beta Contributors" monument.
You can see it here:
http://history.secondserver.net/index.php/Beta_Contributors
We also compiled a list, using nothing but the "Find" button, of those who still have a valid account, and started highlighting their names with a little bullet.
However, Oz Spade said he wasn't sure if the people would want it mentioned or not.
What do you think?

Wow good job Eggy - 'cepting of course your omission of Cris - please fix.

Also, with only 1 Marker on the list (Steve Marker) and was wonder if this name is a typo:

Trouble Maker

There are no other Maker's.

Aimee -
There seems to be some confusion here. We did not build the monument or choose the list of names to be included in it.
The monument was built in 2003 by Ryan Linden and currently resides in the middle of Plum.
The list of names on the wiki is, and will always be, the list inscribed on the monument.

After posting this message, I will immediately log in and double check to see if your name is there, but if it isn't, it means you were not among the 1500ish most active Beta users.
I should stress that this is an article about a specific monument, and does not intend to be a complete list of Beta users, or of people who are still active.
As such, I will not add you to that page, though we certainly can, and probably will, make a different article about the last remaining old timers.
Nothing personal against you, of course. You, and everyone else, are very welcome and actively encouraged to write about themselves, their second life, and projects they have been involved with.

Merwan -
I guess that means Marker was apparently not a very popular surname in Beta! Trouble Maker was indeed a valid account: /invalid_link.html
You can search the forum member list, it has every account ever created:

Eggy,

Sorry but the fact that my name is not on their is some kind of oversight then. Mistress, Torrid and I started 3 days apart. Do you have any idea what any of the other Midnights on that list beside Chip, Torrid and Mistress did? Yet they are all there, except me - I was very active during beta, certainly more so than a lot of the unknown Midnights that are on the list. It's fine, I was just pointing it out, because it is in fact, innacurate.

Excellent! re. the Marker name. :)

Eggy a suggestion - why not make the list inclusive of all beta peeps? Then set up a couple of bullet-type highlights for those on the Monument and those with active accounts, etc. Because someone left Cristiano's name off the monument gives you the opportunity to clarify the historical record.

Seems that if a beta member is pointing out they are not on the list that you really ought to add them - which is a good precedent.

:)

Merwan,

I am not worried about my name being on a list on a monument. A historical record of an inaccurate list is still a valid historical record - it doesn't change anything. I was just pointing out that the list does have missing names. Beryl Greenacre is also not listed, yet she was very active in beta as well - it is when we became friends.

Nope, you're not on it - but your former identity is - Martinito Starseeker - which may explain why your present account didn't make the list.

Eggy,

The odd part is the previous account I signed into with maybe 5 times maximum - which shows the innacuracy of that list.

Merwan, that would be 30,000 people :)
As I said, the article is about the monument. We can make a separate one about beta people in general. Heck, I don't even know why we have that huge list in the first place, it's not really useful information.

As far as I know, Beryl wasn't in Second Life during beta. She joined the evening of June 23, 2003, the day SL went live.

Looking at the list, it has dawned on me that I encountered a buttload of Beta people in my first month as a newb. I wish I took pictures. :D

We're really not that hard to find -- and usually not that photogenic, either.

Eggy,

Edav Nomad, the one I had for beta, wasn't very active yet he is on the list. I was only in beta for a few weeks before it went live and I payed for about a month after beta.

I might still be able to log onto him.

It's not my fault! LL collected that list. I have no idea what metric they used. It could have just been the time they chose to collect that data. High scores have been known to fluctuate wildly from week to week.
