Ok. The first announcement was edited and now reads:

Important Announcement Regarding Developer Incentive Awards

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is an important change being made to the Developer Incentive program, beginning with July’s award (given out in August). As the award has grown from 20 winners to 80 winners a month, the process has gotten ever more complex, in an effort to streamline, we will no longer issue checks to Developer Incentive Award winners starting with next month’s award. Instead we will credit your award directly to your Second Life account.

And the clarification post reads:

just a clarification:

beginning next month we will not be able to convert developer incentive awards to Linden $'s. Developer incentives are meant to be a way that we share revenue with residents and that revenue is meant to be shared in US$ only. Our apologies for any confusion in this matter.

Does this mean that in the future, developer awards will *only* be a credit to your account? No form of monetary funds in any other way? I'm just trying to clarify because I think I may be confused. Any thoughts?

That is how it reads to me.

I am a little saddened, as I always just take the account credit. I always wanted to have a check sent just so I could photocopy it and hang it on the wall. Could have made for some funny Photoshop fun as well.

Seems to me most people on the list pay more then the DI award amount in tier anyway, so I do not see this as a major change.

Ok, thank you Schwan. :) This doesn't really affect me (who knows it could one day though), but mainly I just like to understand policies and such. I also can't personally see how this could "hurt" any of the people who get developer awards, but then there could be something I don't see. *shrug*

Excellent news.

It would be nice to get that check instead of the small tier adjustment, but I'm sure that has to be a pain for LL. I would rather time be spent on software improvements than addressing envelopes and licking stamps.

I imagine that if, through the Developer Incentinve Awards, you have an excess of credit in your account (making more than you need to spend each month for tier fees), then at least when you close out your account sometime in the future, you can get that credit back as a check.

I don't know if they would cut you a check without closing out your account, though. They might if the sum gets very large.

Hahaha, somebody didn't think about the ramifications of offering the developer incentive in L$ as an option, did they ;) Either from admitting a value between US$ and L$ or, if the uptake on that option was high, the prospect of having one and a half million plus Lindens suddenly "created" and added to the money pool!

I love how the sudden policy change and post-editing was framed by Jessie as a 'clarification' :D
