Hehe this book is so good I can't put it down. It's great that you're discovering the book for the first time! If you type in "Snow Crash" in the search window, you'll get about five pages of threads which mention the book, and more than a few that analyze it and its connection with Second Life in some detail. |

It’s a great book and there is no reason not to talk about it some more. No need to always stop and run to the search and find what others said weeks ago. Maybe new idea have come up or new people are now here.
I think the book is great. Never got to finish it. Long story but hope I can get back to it soon. My friend that got me in to SL also got me in to that book and he tried to build “Black Hole” but it didn’t work out as he wanted. Maybe one day. _____________________

Funny contrast between Snowcrash and SecondLife. In Snowcrash when you log into the Metaverse from a public terminal, everyone sees you as a generic low rez, crappy AV... but you still see everyone else in full rez...
In SecondLife if your on a bad connection, everyone sees you just fine, but they all look like gray blobs. Here's a list of other Cyberpunk books on my list to read (most which I havn't gotten to yet)... Count Zero by Gibson Mindplayers by Cadigan Islands in the Net by Sterling Holy Fire by Sterling Burning Chrome (short story) by Gibson Cyberpunk (short story) by Bruce Bethke (google this, it's available online) City Come A Walkin' by John Shirley Eclipse trilogy by John Shirley (a lot of dystopian, but a fair amount of "hacking" and man-machine interfaces) _____________________

I am a big fan fo Neal Stehpenson now, whats another good novel he has authored? I really enjoyed Diamond Age and Zodiac is not a bad book. I only got halfway through Cryptonomicon and I haven't read the latest 2 or 3. I have found that I just enjoy re-reading Snow Crash and Diamond Age every couple of years and I get my Stephenson fix. Merwan, Pattern Recognition is a great book, but it almost reads as straight fiction. I felt like I was reading a Bret Easton Ellis/Jay McInerney book (which I happen to like.) _____________________

Idoru by Gibson. I want a Walled City in SL!
As for snowcrash, someone still needs to write a swordfighting engine with hackable limbs. And I'd like to see daemons running around. |
